they’re not good but they are the only team left who is even remotely close to oh st in terms of talent, i think oh st wins a one score game here before blowing out whichever one of ND/PSU/UGA they play in the finals
It’s a home game for Texas also.
Ohio State could potentially have to play Texas in Dallas and Georgia in Atlanta.
Will Howard: 319 yards passing, 3 TDs, 0 Ints, 0 sacks
Not only did he not win MVP (understandable given Smiths stat line) but they wouldn’t even let him on the stage for the trophy ceremony. Wtf? How many dumb fuck old white guys were up there that nobody cares about?
OSU had 0 sacks and 2 TFL in the game they played in October in Eugene. 8 sacks and 13 TFL tonight.
i assume this is a pretty “hot” take based on what i’ve been seeing online. but i’m of the belief that the conference championship should matter more not less in the seeding. i dont think a conference champ should ever have to go on the road in game 1 even when they aren’t awarded the bye.
it seems like everyone online is talking about removing the conference championship from discussion at all when it comes to the seeding.
I like your fix. CC get either a home game or a bye. Boise/ASU end up in the 5-8 slots in this system which seems fine.
I’m okay with it if they’re the 5th ranked champion (Clemson this year). I think just a simple reseeding for the quarterfinals would get the job done.
(1) Oregon vs (8) Arizona St
(4) Penn St vs (5) Notre Dame
(3) Texas vs (6) Ohio St
(2) Georgia vs (7) Boise St
Seems a lot better than what we got. Plus it solves the issue that everyone brought up that it might be better to be the 5 seed than the 1 seed with the system that exists now.
I think I want the current first round set up.
But
For QF and semi finals. Highest seed gets to pick opponent.
That would be fun.
The problem with weighting conference championship too heavily is the huge disparity between conferences right now. There’s a huge difference between a Big 10 championship and an ACC, Big 12, etc.
I think a conference championship gets you a bid, but then just seed it like a normal tournament.
Is there though? ASU should have won last night and there didn’t seem much difference between these teams
Also. OSU smoked a 13-0 team
Live sports are weird.
There is. Live sports have variance, which is why you can’t judge from one game/outcome. But start down from the top from your choice of power ranking and you’ll find 4 Big Ten teams and 4-5 SEC teams before you get to the first ACC or Big 12 team. If the conference champ has a good enough resume, they’ll get a bye anyway from normal seeding.
Texas was probably the best sec team (at worst 2) and they didn’t look better than the #1 big12 team
The sec is not that good this year. Even the 3 big team is kinda trash. Penn state still hasn’t beaten anyone.
But why? BIG10/SEC destroyed other conferences for their own benefit. Now they say they deserve an even bigger benefit. Sure, that’s how it works. But it’s understandable if the ones they screwed over aren’t eager to help them strengthen the empire.
I don’t care about the best teams being seeded the highest. I care about 2 things in order:
On field results should determine seeding
Games should be fun
I think the first being more important to me, means I think we should keep the conference championships. Plus if you get rid of them, how far are we away from the B10/SEC invitational? Even if the other teams get wiped, it injects cooler themes. ASU/Texas is so much cooler than OSU/Georgia retreads.
The real issue is the home games in the prelim if you want fun games.
Kind of inevitable to have some home games though. You want a fanbase of 30k people to travel across the country to a neutral field 4 times in a month?
Yeah that’s true, but devils advocate, CFB fans definitely will. I like the home games actually. just won’t be close most of the time.
I dont think you can have an inclusive 12 team playoff that doesnt have a bunch of duds. The ACC and Go5 teams are always going to suck and drag the quality down.
In my world we are all one big conference - Big Everyone.
If you don’t care about best teams being seeded the highest, then you end up with Oregon going undefeated and having to play Ohio State.
And what is on field results? Sort by record? Everything is gray.
Penn State beat the snot out of the team that basically tied for the ACC championship. And beat another conference champ that got a bye easily.
I agree the sec is not their normal caliber this year, but there is still a big drop off to the #3 conference.
