you don’t want to get your good uniforms messed up with the pop tarts
Iowa State’s play calling so bad here.
They could sneak it 4 times and get in.
it’s a bit awkward needing to run clock first intentionally
They’re not thinking clock management. Just score.
Kinda grinding my gears that there is an “armed forces bowl” and a “military bowl”
I get that these are just made up labels and they only exist as a vessel for sponsors but come on put SOME effort into it
why do you hate the troops?
okay I know those weren’t bowls until 20 years ago, military should keep it though I think that’s played at navy. The other one can go back to the fort not worth it bowl.
Best season in ISU history.
6-0 in those games…
Colorado is good
You have to say shit like this, because you have to pretend there aren’t objective power rankings that measure who played better, they just say it’s teams you don’t want to have played better
You’re the only one being subjective and biased – you are literally cherry picking single games
I think this bowl season has demonstrated that every conference sucks.
Shadeur Sanders is going to need to be hospitalized after this game for extreme bruising of the nuts after these announcers hugged them too hard and too long.
There is a 5-7 bowl team on my tv screen and I am not sure why?
marshall lost almost everyone coaches and portal so they dropped out and LaTech stepped up as a replacement so army had an opponent
More ASU history. I left off after The Ultimatum Bowl.
The 1969 season was more of the same for ASU. They beat two top 20 teams, beat Arizona again, won the WAC, and finished 8-2. Still no bowl invitation. So the “let’s start our own bowl” talk amped up but apparently you couldn’t just do that without NCAA approval, which wasn’t happening.
The 1970 team was better. They were 10-0, ranked 8th by AP. Bowl time? Maybe. The Peach Bowl, which had only started up two years earlier, was considering them but preferred Penn State despite the fact they were ranked 10 spots behind ASU. Fortunately for ASU, Penn State thought the Peach Bowl was beneath them and turned down the invitation. And so it was that ASU finally got a bowl game invitation.
Legend, which is ofc very unlikely true, says ASU’s coach Kush wasn’t happy with his players goofing off on the plane trip out so he had the pilot land, found a field, and held practice until he got his message across. The game was played in a blizzard. ASU was down at the half but beat UNC 48-26.
The ASU people at the game didn’t enjoy the weather but they did get along with the Peach Bowl officials, who offered advice on how to start a bowl game in Arizona, which palms to grease or whatever, and the Fiesta Bowl started the next year. From having their invitations turned down to hosting playoffs, the Peach and Fiesta have come a long way.
ASU played in and won the first three Fiestas with Danny White, later of the NFL Cowboys, at QB. (White was a legend at my old high school.) Those were high-scoring ASU teams, and ASU scored 124 points in those three games, albeit against unranked teams. Trouble was, top teams didn’t want to play in a new bowl for little money against a good ASU team on their home field. Not much upside.
That changed in '75 when 2nd ranked Nebraska, having said no to the Fiesta the week before, lost to Oklahoma and had a sudden change of heart. Two TD dog ASU beat them 17-14 in a very good game, finishing the season as the only undefeated team, but second in the final polls to Oklahoma.
ASU is 5-1 in the Fiesta. (All those games were on their home field. So yeah that seems like an advantage.) They haven’t been back since '83 though. Two teams have appeared in the Fiesta more often than ASU, Ohio State (5-4), and Penn State (7-0). PSU, ofc, is there again this year. Obviously I’ll be rooting for Boise State. In terms of respect and treatment by the powers that be, Boise resembles the old ASU, though I think they’ve been somewhat more successful dealing with the outsider role.
Bama coming out and literally wanting the ball less (3 TOs in 1Q) against Michigan.
I was told Bama would take it all if the committee hadn’t screwed them.
cant believe the committee screwed Michigan out of a playoff bid
Michigan prob still loses but r/cfb made me laugh
Milroe is shook time to sit the kid
