We are just going to be seeing more extreme weather everywhere
This looks like it could get bad, don’t think it’s ever happened in the Gulf before

Background
Extinction Rebellion protesters blocked access to several printing presses owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp, disrupting the distribution of the print editions of several News Corp-owned newspapers including The Sun and The Times as well as other newspapers printed by News Corp including The Daily Telegraph, The Daily Mail and London Evening Standard. In a statement, XR said the action was designed to disrupt and expose what it called a failure to adequately report on the climate emergency: “Our free press, society and democracy is under attack – from a failing government that lies to us consistently … Our leaders have allowed the majority of our media to be amassed in the hands of five people with powerful vested interests and deep connections to fossil fuel industries. We need a free press but we do not have it.” 72 arrests were made.[101][102] In a statement on Twitter, Priti Patel called the actions “an attack on our free press, society and democracy”.[103] After government officials considered reclassifying XR as an organised crime group, a number of public figures such as Stephen Fry and Mark Rylance criticised the government’s move in an open letter, describing XR as “a group of people who hold the government to account”

YOU DON’T FUCKING SAY
Get the Army Corps of Engineers or CCC or whatever in there to cull these dead trees. This is a guaranteed disaster waiting to happen and we’re doing nothing.
North said a majority of the beetle-killed stands are in wilderness or in areas that are too remote and too steep to be logged.
Greatest country on earth. Can’t be done. Translation - too expensive.
But while the Sierra forest staff has the will to conduct 50,000 acres a year of controlled burns, Thomas said, “they don’t have the capacity and the funding to do it.”
Prescribed fire programs aren’t getting the staffing and money they need from the regional and national Forest Service offices, he said.
And they never will under Trump. Still deplorables in CA will happily vote for him as their house burns down.
I can’t remember the details, but I read an article (probably posted on UP) that said, naturally, humans are making the problem worse. I think the upshot was that fires are natural and good for forests, but we’ve done so much to stop them that, for example, dead trees don’t burn regularly–they accumulate for years until when a fire finally does start in that area, there is too much fuel to easily top them.
One of the best ways to prevent forest fires is to let them burn.
Forest fires come and go and the long term trends aren’t just solidly for more and bigger fires and there are lots of reasons. The Climate Changey thing though is the Western US is getting hotter and drier and not only will fires not be stopped, part of what is forest now will just be turning into scrubland.
Pretty sure “oil demand may never recover” is not the traditional meaning of “peak oil”. We need Jiggs to clear this one up.
Amazing. I really needed that.
lmao, get jiggs in here please, we can do a contaiment thread for him

Nobody worth taking seriously uses liberal as a pejorative.
What about “so-called liberal”? I like to get yhat dig in on my “center left” friends who are socially liberal but balk at anything that would bump them off their planned wealth accumulation trajectory. A lot of the people in my social circle (mostly relatively affluent professionals) tend to think that way and I tend to make dinner parties very uncomfortable for everyone.
Lipstick liberals.
Lol thats pretty much it! I try not to be that aggressive about it, but I use a lot of language like “I worry that if we don’t do enough about X then …” Its kind of scary how many of my well educated professional friends don’t know how bad some things are for black people in Canada, for indigenous people, or even how hard life really is for, say, the lady that cleans their condo every week. Well, I want them to know. So far no one has cut us completely out of their social circle!
I prefer Latte Liberal, which is admittedly a conservative phrase but it perfectly captures the sort of comfortable liberal position that should be challenged a little more.
That’s fine. But it’s lol-tastical that anyone at all gets pissed off about peeps posting in a thread.
SMH no.
Saying “It would hurt progressive causes if progressive leaders said X” != “You are personally hurting progressive causes by posting X here”.
We just went through this in the POTUS BOWL thread: Saying “Hey folks, let’s chat about a vote boycott as strategy” != “fuck you, grow up, that’s a vote for D.Trump”.
My definition is this: a pro-capitalist who whines when called a conservative.
No, not really.
We just went through this in the G.Floyd thread…
That’s not what others were claiming. Others were claiming that X,Y,Z was faulty logic. They were presenting an example where X,Y,Z produces garbage-in garbage-out results. Others were hoping to induce a “aha” moment for the fool, such that he abandons that faulty X,Y,Z logic.
Ultimately, I was making an analogy…
You took parts of the analogy literally.
Libtard or libshit for me please.
You know… calling liberals, who self-identify as liberals, “liberals” isn’t a pejorative.
I mean I’m cool with him/her/they introductions. How would my fellow UnStuckers, who self-identify as liberals, care to be addressed? As in, “Hi, I’m an UnStucker. IRL I self-identify as a liberal. Here on UnStuck, I prefer to be called _______________”.
Every person who regularly posts here is a liberal.
Which part do you disagree with?
