Climate Change and the Environment

What if we elect a billionaire to be President, but as a Democrat! Would that fix it?

but People Like Their Carbon Offsets™

A political belief I’ve held since like all the way back when I was a 2p2 libertarian is that all of this emissions trading is bullshit and a carbon tax would be so much better.

Set up another social security type of system for carbon. Give people money every month. Republicans will skewer your but they’re already saying you’re drinking baby blood and supporting terrorists, who gives a fuck?

If we get rid of the Carbon Offset industry what will the Carbon Offset employees do?

The planet died with carbon offsets not from carbon offsets obviously.

I’d say about 10 minutes after I heard about the concept of selling carbon offsets, I remember thinking what an easy scam business that would be. I am actually a bit surprised that I hadn’t heard of it actually happening until now. I assume it has, but I probably just didn’t hear about it.

We have that in Canada and it has been absolutely demonized by the right.

Might want to work on the wording a bit.

Maybe they’re marketing to the anti-woke mob. AIN’T NO WHALE GONNA TELL ME WHAT KINDA WINDEX I CAN BUY!

The thing that I make billions off of is clearly essential for the human race. Why would I possibly say that if it wasnt true? What other motivation could I have?

He obviously has a financial motive but the idea that we can totally eliminate fossil fuels in the next 100 years is just pure fantasy land. They are critical to like 90% of everything you touch every day, including the food we all eat.

We are not talking about phasing out the use of fossile products which is indeed impossible. The discussion is about the use of fossile fuels, fossile products used to produce energy and we can definitely get rid of that completely if we really wanted to.

When I read headlines like “Moment of truth for oil industry” on CNN right now I ask myself what are they expecting? That these industries somehow say “Oh fuck we kill the planet we stop extracting and refining oil and close our business”? Have fishermen stopped fishing when there was and is a warning that they are overfishing and killing off fish populations? Nope. On the german coast the Baltic sea is pretty much empty making fishing uneconomic. Or have you seen the large columns of farmers in Europe who are in favour of using less fertilizers and pesticides because they harm the soil and poison the ground water? Why would anyone expect the oil industry to stop there business?

As clocked by the oldest weather station in the country, Toronto’s daily maximum temperature for last Friday, December 15 was the highest it’s ever been since records began all the way back in 1840.

Wasn’t it like 6 degrees that day? That seems like 7 degrees above seasonal which you wouldn’t think would break records. Maybe there just wasn’t a day in 180 attempts that was 1.5 standard deviations above average.

Thought i saw 12.5C in my car, was trying not to chew up my winter tires.

Same problem here in MN, guess I could have held off putting them on. Christmas will be 10C and raining

We were told summer here would be super hot because of El Nino, instead this has to have been the mildest December for 20 years and it’s going to be 21C/70F on Christmas Day with possible rainfall. Climate change confirmed fake.
