IIRC Radjabov already dreamcrushed him once at the World Cup a few years ago.
That was an awful game from Ding lol. Probably the worst game I have ever seen him play. I know he wants to play for a win but he never succeeded in getting any dynamic chances whatsoever. Just played into a trash position and got rolled.
playing for win or bust works better in poker than chess, hikaru touched on it with his draw against nepo, plenty of examples of people needing to win and just get rolled instead
Yeah I get it, like I mean Firouzjaâs g4 against Nepo the round before was suicidal, but I get what he was trying to do. Like itâs an aggressive move, heâs trying to instigate. Dingâs game today, I donât get it. It wasnât aggressive or imbalance-creating. It just looked bad.
Ding leading Hikaru in important second place matchup
Pleasantly surprised with Nakamuraâs performance overall regardless of how last round turns out. I really thought he was washed in classical, but looks like heâs still kind of got it.
I still think Carlsen is a near lock to play, but I donât think Hikaru can beat Nepo. Ding actually could.
Hikaru chokes, Ding gets 2nd
only needed a draw and loses, gonna feel like shit about that if magnus doensât play even thoug hhe doesnât care
Was anyone betting this? Was Nepo the favorite going in?
He was not. Ding was and Fabi close 2nd
Thanks.
this was the pre-tourney odds
Nepo was +800!!!
seems like the market placed way too much importance on the beating that he took vs magnus
Radabov also way outperformed his expectations i didnt watch his games but i suspect his opponents were only playing for wins against him and getting worse postions as a result
I guess at those odds, Iâd have liked Fabi and Radjabov (3500 is just too good a price).
Under ordinary conditions Iâd have like Ding to ship, but the long layoff was a red flag.
Iâm not sure I would have touched Nepo, but that looks pretty dumb in hindsight.
I think a well-prepped Ding would give Magnus a sweat. I donât think Nepo will.
He also missed an easy win vs rapport early on. Like stupid easy in those levels
I mean +800 is more or less the chance any randomly selected player has of winning, so the market was saying Nepo had about an average chance of winning. You canât make judgements based on the blowout score, because everyone was taking big risks against Nepo as the tournament went on, since beating the leader is the best way of trying to catch him.
Yeah that is what happened in his games against Nakamura and Ding.
Brutal day for GothamChess today who is playing an over the board tournament. First up he lost to 11 year old Nigerian immigrant Tanitoluwa Adewumi, who is an FM but will be an IM soon. He blundered away like a more than +2 advantage. Then just now I was like I wonder what happened in his second game of the day and looked it up and he lost to another FM via this nasty tactic:
Look at that lol. That has to hurt.
Whatâs the engine move? Re5?
According to Stockfish itâs +10 for his opponent. Engine recommends Qd8.
Where can I replay this game? Iâm a shitty player and had to look carefully to see whoâs who. I saw Qd8 but rooks are shite. Whatâs the fastest way for white to win?
