The prize is over $1 million if he wins, and is several hundred thousand dollars just for showing up.
Voted 2 but I am pretty close to 1. Call it 1.5.
I donāt think the money is a huge motivator for him. I assume he is already pretty rich.
think itās more or less, what else is he gonna do, be a poker pro?
Obviously for some people they just leave cause their heart isnāt in it anymore but I think you gotta grind it out while you still have it (not just individual chess money (which he def might slow down on the non norway events that might not be worth it to him) but how many of his sponsors are only b/c heās the champ) but heās gonna do w/e he wants
well at least 2nd place is an actual race now
nepoās an emotional player who has checked out of the tournament already (in fact has stated he just wants this over with) but if he loses one you never know with a player like that is capable of meltdown wise.
still has to face hikaru, loses one to him and well you never know but heās already done with ding/fabi and itās just so ridic unlikely anyone wins out or enough to actually catch him, math possible sure but in this level of chess? well dingās won 2 in a row I suppose why not
John Bartholemew thinks Magnus is basically a lock to play no matter what, but if Hikaru is 2nd place then Magnus plays 100%. He wonāt let a 35 year old streamer play in the world championship lol.
If Magnus plays and Hikaru gets second I really hope Magnus says this
Do you have the Hikaru/alireza match stats? Alireza was lost by like move 15 he is not playing good at all
Yeah 49 average centipawn loss is not great for a super-GM. Those stats look like one of my games.
Firouzja is currently 220+ games into a heads up 30s match against Naroditsky. The man plays Nepo in 9 hours.
the candidates the most prestigious and important chess tournament of the year
also multiple players are also doing whatever in the middle of it (I think hikaru played title tuesday?) among whatever else heās doing cause heās a streamer first, chess player second, at this point
Sure but i think his decision to get back to the top of classical chess is super impressive. He was kinda written off in that regard
I wonder how that worked out for himā¦
who saw the fabi collapse coming
but ding has been great in the late game in this tournament
would be incredible if ding won 6 in a row to close and tie if nepo just draws 3, guess itās not as ridic as I first thought with alireza playing this bad for his level but still insane
Fabi - Ding and Firouzja - Nepo games both good watches for different reasons lol.
I mean I guess Firouzja just figured he needed to go for the throat no matter what. g4 is an inexplicable move otherwise.
It turns out that Firouzja is the one that Literally Doesnāt Care, I guess. Heās playing like itās club tournament on the weekend.
Thatās two Black Petrov wins for Nepo. How much easier does it get?
Ding is getting stompwalloped by Teimour āDream Crusherā Radjabov.
