Can someone tell me at what move Nepo went from drawn position (with accurate play) to lost position.

it was Qe6, move 130

Thanks!

Classy press conference from Nepo after the Game 8 loss, he just fronted the media and was like, I want to apologize for that game, forget being up to my standard, that wasn’t even up to GM standard. Then a reporter was like were you tired and he was like not really, just played bad. Gotta be tough to come out after a loss like that where you hate yourself and not only say yeah I sucked, but pass up a gold plated opportunity to make excuses.

Watched the original clip…seems like a nothing burger.

Alex basically said: 1) I’m not going to criticize a country that I’m a guest in.
2) LOL at Western countries thinking their shit don’t stink.

Yawn.

You can’t make a man understand what his salary requires he doesn’t understand, or something.

Must be nice to hang out in Dubai!

People who study international relations at Stanford are probably huge turds who go work for the State Department anyways. So they do a lot of thinking about this stuff, sure, but it’s the wrong kind of thinking.

~Smart mathy/logic inclined people are not immune form having terrible level 0 political views Round 252345134513493964563456345

“Last time, I made a dumb, offhand comment that couldn’t be further from what I think.”

What happens to people when they get famous, or think they’re famous, or just have to keep talking in order to get paid? Why do people so often seem to let slip the opposite of what they believe?

This is actually relevant. When you talk on record all day every day eventually you will say stupid things on record.

How are you a shrink?

I have to say, it’s a bit comforting to see even the highest-echelon players like Nepo aren’t immune to raging monkey tilt.

To be fair, Nepo has supposedly long been prone to this stuff. I haven’t been a “fan” of chess since I watched Queen’s Gambit and got interested in it again. But the “book” on Nepo is that he crumbles in the face of adversity. Well, I guess so!

Nonetheless, I can’t help but chuckle at some of the smug commentary from Nepo’s rivals. Guys like Anish Giri might want to pause for a moment and consider that Nepo actually beat them in the Candidates tournament, it’s not like Magnus hand picked Nepo to play against because he’s scared of Giri.

Caruana has been the worst for that, basically calling Nepo a patzer. On the other hand, Hikaru has been pretty gracious in his commentary.

At least Fabi actually has played in a WC and did better than Ian. So he’s “walked the walk”.

I watched Giri commentating on the chess24 stream today and he was saying some monumentally stupid shit, something like “it sucks in chess because you can put in a really good performance but whether you win or not ultimately depends on your opponent’s moves”. No shit, Anish, if you get outplayed in a competitive sport you lose? Call the mayor!

Even funnier since chess is basically the lowest variance competitive discipline in the world, so you can’t even say “I played better but got unlucky”.

After I saw Nepo’s name written in Russian earlier, I realised that he has quite an odd last name which could translate roughly as “one who does not remember”. I’m surprised I haven’t seen more “guess he forgot how to play” jokes flying around after the recent blunders, but I guess I don’t frequent any Russian language chess sites/forums.

nepo doesn’t blunder like that if he doesn’t lose game 6 clearly but I think we all know someone like that who when things aren’t going their way definitely do a lot worse afterwards. Probably ends on the next game cause Nepo has to swing for the fences with white.

Expecting 1. h4
