Markets like that site are impossible to resolve 100 for both cause it’s peer vs peer, not vs the house
Not that it would stop the house from collecting all of it of course but they ain’t paying out both sides.

Each candidate is his own p2p yes/no market so why can’t they both resolve to 100?
The market was a negative risk market so the outcomes are mutually exclusive. Lets say three teams A, B and C are in contention for something and I hold NO on A for 1 share and NO on B for 1 share. This is worth $1 if A or B win and $2 if C wins. A neg risk market will allow me to convert this position to $1 cash and 1 share on C YES, which has the same worth in all three outcomes. This allows me to free up capital to do something else with, but it comes at the “cost” that you cant resolve both A and B to YES, as my second dollar is no longer there to do that. I put cost in quotes there as negrisk markets are inherently supposed to be impossible to have two YES outcomes in. (And if theyre not, you werent careful enough writing the rules, or you didnt make it clear to everyone that “Other” covers all nonstandard outcomes, both of which are true here)
gotham chess had an AI chatbot chess tournament and it was pretty much what you’d expect
cliff notes are stockfish vs a bunch of 4 year old cheaters
snapchat was moving pawns sideways before making nothing but illegal moves then commited suicide
meta was illegally moving it’s own pieces to just get captured including his own bishop by his own queen, then followed by moving chatgpt’s pieces
grok was teleporting the queen all over the place blundered it seven times, none of which gemini captured. Gemini removed it’s own knight and put a pawn there.
when told they were illegal moves the AI responded with it’s form of “cry harder”.
finals was chatgpt vs stockfish, chatgpt kept promoting pawns that didn’t exist but blundered so many times that stockfish won, the final move moving the king the only square it was still in check.
AI chatbots are all 4 year olds who won’t follow the rules
in other words this thing that is going to usurp humanity in intelligence… behaves exactly like donald trump
So the AI is Magnus Carlsen bullying the tournament organizers.
How wealthy did Ding become? I’ve got no idea.
Seems like world champ might not get that rich. Especially when no one thinks you’re actually the best player in the world. I’d be surprised if he surpasses Hikaru’s wealth from streaming and such.
well, magnus carlsen is absurdly rich. if he’s champ for a long time he might build it up.
India is really big on chess though, gukesh got their biggest civilian award after winning the title. He probably won’t get extremely wealthy by our standards, but by their standards he’ll be pretty solid.
They split 2.5 mil for the title match, so ding’s ok.
yeah streaming stuff is where it’s at in chess these days, gothamchess can’t make gm and he’s the top streamer.
1.25 million doesn’t qualify you for rich these days, imo.
Anyone know if his team gets a cut of that? He did have a bunch of GMs helping him out as did Ding.
india and china don’t have the usa costs of stuff, that’s also just one payment for their entire year of whatever they do.
you’re right they do have to pay the team
yeah it’s not rich rich but they’re fine, there’s enough events for the top guys to do solidly well, not as much as the top streamers of course but that’s something they can add on if they want.
Rich by Indian or Chinese standards ain’t nothing. We’re probably all top 1% by Indian income/wealth standards.
Being an entertaining streamer is a skill. I love Vishy but I seriously doubt he could pull it off.
oh sure, gukesh and ding are quiet chill dudes, they’re not going to be big streamers, but some people would tune in, it’s not nothing
This whole notion where you need to be rich by US standards is pretty dumb anyway. No you have to buy the 10M house here instead of the 1M house that’s bigger over there. Makes no sense. If you have enough not to really worry about it, difference doesn’t matter anyway.
Better than the real wc.
Gukesh is the Golden Child right now in India. According to what I read in a British online paper, Gukesh is being feted in an Indian-centric style, which is essentially for different groups of civic and business leaders to create awards and events so people can shake his hand after the group gives him a really large check.
And this is all in addition to the limitless marketing/spokesperson opportunities he now has in the Indian market.
So I played in my first-ever local rated tournament a few weeks ago, just for the experience. First game was against this kid who was about 9 years old. He hung his queen midway though the game I felt kinda crummy beating up this kid, but to his credit he stuck in there and kept fighting up to the end, didn’t go on tilt.
Next was a guy my age who I’ve played before in a dive bar in town, so we were both pretty stoked to see familiar faces, took the anxiety off. I beefed up an opening I play all the time and was pissed at myself but luckily he didn’t catch the mistake and I managed to keep my focus for the rest of the game. Got up a piece and was super nervous about blundering away an easy win but I pulled it off.
Third round was vs this college student. I was really happy with my play; think I was playing at the top of my ability. It was close for a long time but eventually my position fell apart.
Wound up coming in what would have been 4th place but there was a tie for 1st so somehow I walked away with the 3rd place prize ($20). Totally astonished I did that well tbh, I went in just hoping to lose three games without completely embarrassing myself.
Overall, A+ experience, would recommend trying it at least once. I sorta want to play more to establish an official USCF rating, but it feels like a huge time commitment even for just a three-round tourney. There’s an upcoming tournament in a city near me that’s 4 round of 45 min games, I’m really not sure if I have the energy for that much chess plus the drive there and back.
Yeah, tournaments are super fun.
What’s the best way to find these kinds of tournaments?
For me I just use the Canada Chess Federation website to track upcoming events.
Fuck it, I’m gonna try to play this game again. Got a chess.com subscription and have been studying and doing puzzles for a few weeks. I was always nervous about playing this game against other humans and embarrassing myself. I’m not naturally good at this game at all. It’s going to take me a lot of work to even be passable I think.
But I did finally take on a couple humans tonight. First match I was down early but he made some blunders allowing me to get into a winning position. I felt like I was pushing towards mate and then blundered it away. Second match I pulled off a win when my opponent ran out of time but I was definitely winning that one given my advantage. I’m hooked now. Time to see if I can become passably decent at this game.
