While this is true, it manages to underrate Pete Rose, which in turn, underrates Barry Bonds

You wouldnā€™t

Good point. Rose is a Hall of Famer for sure. But his hit record was only achieved through many many bad seasons where he really should have retired. He might have more hits than Ty Cobb but heā€™s nowhere near as good as Cobb, or Aaron, or Musial, or anyone else at the top of the hit list. Heā€™s really just Paul Molitor who played ten years too long and was a raging asshole.

Which, donā€™t get me wrong, Molitor was a great player. Just not anything like the best of the best, all of whom Rose passed on the hit list.

  1. Cobbā€™s racism has been disputed.
  1. Even if Cobb was a racist, it would be in a personal way that didnā€™t call into question the legitimacy of the game the way betting on baseball and steroid use did. If you were to ding people currently in the Hall of Fame for racism, you should cancel the owners and commissioners who chose to perpetuate segregated leagues before you take on Cobb.

Pete Rose did something that he knew carried with it the penalty of being banned from baseball.

And has been an absolute dick about it ever since.

No, he should not be in the HOF.

Iā€™m willing to compromise on Rose and say that a lifetime ban should be a ban only for the duration of his lifetime and he shouldnā€™t get to see himself in the Hall of Fame while heā€™s still alive, while allowing the opportunity for enshrinement after he dies, like Moses not being allowed to enter the promised land.

Lollifetime bans for betting on games - do you guys even cricket?

Fuck every bit of that noise

Then donā€™t have a hall of fame. If youā€™re going to categorize a group for highest achievement for the specific sport then do that. If you want to make an outstanding achievement award for ā€œeverything else athletics did in lifeā€ , then do that. Combining both is sillier than the latter.

Maybe at this point Rose is so famous for being kept out of the hall that it is a reason to put him in. At this point, you canā€™t tell the story of baseball without talking about Rose being kept out of the hall.

People can start their own halls. Thereā€™s nothing magical about the one in Cooperstown.

Pete Rose is in the WWE Hall of Fame. He doesnā€™t need another one.

The RnR HoF is an obscene joke.

Iā€™ve never been, so I canā€™t really say about that hall experience.

The concept of a rock-n-roll HOF always seemed absurd to me. Rock was supposed to be rebellious, WTF could possibly be rebellious about a genre that has a HOF? ,

Thatā€™s what I meant - the idea of commemorating an anti-establishment art form in the most establishment way you can imagine.

How much of rock n roll was making black musical forms more palatable for white baby boomers?

The Rock and Roll HOF really gained a lot of credibility this year by inducting Eminem and Dolly Parton.

Sure, most of early rock was recycling earlier and largely black created music for white audiences.

As always, the non-sense random age cohort crap is non-sense and random crap.

I think this set to play at the right time.
