JFC, dude. Don‘t just post names in the „when people die thread“. You gave me a heart attack.
Y’all are taking Fatboy way too literally.
yikes
Yeah this comment is either a terrible joke or includes a lot of internalized misogyny. It may be subconscious misogyny but still. This is creeping into “she was asking for it” territory.
The flip side of saying that attractive men wouldn’t rape is saying that unattractive women wouldn’t be raped.
This was Harvey Weinstein’s wife at the time the abuse stories started coming out. The reason he abused women wasn’t that he couldn’t get laid.
I strike my comment from the record.
Everything is about sex, except sex which is about power. This is even more true for sexual abuse and assault.
This shit gotta start with Norm Macdonald. Ugh.
In addition to what everyone else has said, there’s very little room between “that guy is hot af, therefore can get any woman and is obv not a rapist” and “that guy is rich af, therefore can get any woman and is obv not a rapist”.
I am not looking to make any sort of excuse for famous guys who commit sexual assault, but I think society would benefit from retiring the assumption that a guy’s looks/status/wealth could mean any woman would want to have sex with him.
If only there was something Norm could have done differently
The discussion was about whether anyone should be surprised by male public figures being credibly accused of sexual harassment / assault. The correct answer is of course you shouldn’t. However, some people seem to be especially surprised each time it’s a dude like Franken or Norm for some reason, but that’s the proper and predictable order in which creeps will be ratted out. Attractive people enjoying undeserved advantages is one of the most robust findings in social psychology and adjacent research, and this extends to being viewed more favorably in sexually-coercive scenarios. It’s is so obvious that SNL did a bit on it.
See, if everything is sex
Except sex, which is power
You know power is just sex
You screw me and I’ll screw you too
Everything is sex
Except sex, which is power
You know power is just sex
Now ask yourself who’s screwing you
That comes from a song that just occurred to me is a pretty awesome WAAF party anthem. (Kind of a banger, too, just sayin’)
In related news, Al Franken is doing a comedy tour.
Yawn
Well, at least R. Kelly got got.
Took 15 years but it did happen
