Capitalism vs. Socialism

how about just a percentage of savings accounts, but done every year, redistributed randomly, with a relatively small jackpot?

Socialism through gambling - what’s not to like?

as an aside, I was in Spain one year just before and during the Christmas Lottery, and it was kind of nuts. Lines out the doors at the shops, and there were even street vendors selling tickets.

it is definitely a THING in Spain.

So unlike Powerball and Mega Millions, there is a guaranteed winner, right?

Pretty big caveat there

I’m sure the people that had been living there are glad to have contributed to “growth”

Henry George said this:

As no man made the land, so no man can claim a right of ownership in the land.

in a speech he gave in Ireland

We claim that the land of Ireland, like the land of every country, cannot justly belong to any class, whether that class be large or small; but that the land of Ireland, like the land of every other country, justly belongs in usufruct to the whole people of that country equally, and that no man and no class of men can have any just right in the land that is not equally shared by all others.

Pretty freaky. Property is theft. As a practical matter and an implementation of the idea that the value of land is socially created and belongs to people equally he thought government should be funded entirely by taxes on land and natural resources. Essentially that means that you pay everyone else for your use of communal property.
