So the “cancelling” was you being blocked and shamed by someone? Also were the persons pronouns in their bio wherever you were arguing with them? Was there any apology on your end for using the wrong pronouns and clearing up why you did?
Can’t tell if this is a parody.
Like half the people who signed that letter spent most of their adult lives trying to get anyone who publicly criticized them or expressed stances they didn’t like fired

lol for real. did iron lose a job? Has he been ostracized from society? Has he faced professional consequences? Or is having one person mad at you “being canceled” now?
It’s not.
@oneeyedtripping, I don’t recall whether I apologized to the trans woman, though I’m pretty sure I asserted my defense. She has now cut off all communication with me.
Well, I couldn’t come up with a better argument myself for what ‘cancel culture’ nonsense is really about. Thank you for your service.
Damn good call there on Ford. In reality though its basically just the right raging about it because they don’t like being publically called out or shamed over their awful views. Boo hoo.
We should cancel them!
It’s a thing of beauty tho. “getting cancelled” = someone (allegedly) wasn’t nice to me and didn’t respect the greatness that is I.
So you didn’t even apologize for misgendering them? And I’m still confused, how were you cancelled? Was the only cancelling that you were blocked on social media by someone and this person doesn’t talk to you anymore?
I find it hard to reconcile these two points. Isn’t the first point the answer to the question below?
Like I said, I don’t recall whether I apologized, or whether any lack of apology was due to her blocking me.
We know some of the same people IRL who attend games, most of whom dislike me and read the tweets. I don’t think I have met her.
Oh ok got it.
So you feel the “cancelling” part is the few common people you know not liking you because of this incident?
I gave two high profile examples of it NOT happening. I’m glad to see Drew Brees get eviscerated for his stupid disrespecting the flag comments. So why are all those same players silent when DeSean Jackson posts blatant anti-semitism?
My first sentence is a SHOULD. My second is an ACTUAL.
I feel the cancelling is both online and offline.
Hypocrisy arguments are extremely destructive when not delivered properly (and they basically never are). DeSean Jackson should get more backlash for his antisemitism, but you bundled that notion with arguments and a narrative designed to make sure DeSean Jackson receives no criticism for his action.
Ok but do you think this is because of “cancel culture”?
This just sounds like what hundreds of different friend groups I know have been doing for a while. Someone says something offensive to one person and other people make judgments of that person (usually based off of already preconceived views of the person) and some don’t talk to that person or invite them to all group outings.
Example: 2 people dating all have the same group of friends, the break up isn’t pretty and people in the groups pick sides and the friendship circle isn’t the same. I guess with the internet it can be amplified and become more reactionary but I don’t see how what you did wouldn’t have happened before “cancel culture”
Edit: like it would be different if all of these people actively reached out to your employer and others to try and get you fired for a minor transgression but all it seems like is that some people ignore you now from what you feel is unfair because of a misunderstanding
Okay well I agree we should have more “cancel culture” so that DeSean can be criticized more
Thanks for persevering in this discussion, I’m sure you feel like we’re all attacking you when in fact you’re making the most sense really of all the people raising concerns about cancel culture. It sounds like at heart you’re just trying to point out the risks and ask for better and more consistent application. No one can argue with that. But there seems to be other people (not you) out there that are painting an imaginary picture of rampant out of control censorship that just is not happening. Even worse, their motives seem to be to suppress the rightful shaming of nazis.
Yes! Thank you!
I don’t feel attacked. I feel misunderstood, which I guess is partly on me not communicating well and partly on others reading things into my posts that aren’t there (or that I just don’t see).
Yes.
The cis woman who blocked me was in the middle of a multiday rant about harassment (and assault?) at games 15 years ago and advocating shunning/cancelling. The reason the trans woman jumped in was because I expressed sympathy for part of the cis woman’s point.
