California 2022 Propositions: Now with 2024!

Ooof.

Yes on 5. I’ve become immersed in local politics and lowering the threshhold for local bond measures is sorely needed. Our schools and roads and housing are falling apart or nonexistent, and requiring 2/3rds of people to vote to tax themselves is utterly ridiculous.

I know of so many of these that would have passed at the 55% requirement. Instead, nothing gets done.

This is a first step toward reforming the damage done by prop 13.

Is there anything else in the pipe for rent control for 2026?

Its desperately needed in the state. If the groups pushing no have an alternative they are backing in the near future I would love to hear about it.

It just needs to be written with more guardrails to prevent NIMBY cities from exploiting it to prevent housing production.

If it had a 15-year new-construction exemption, I’d vote for it.

I’m sure someone somewhere has something planned.

Here’s an article from CA YIMBY that goes more in depth about rent control in general, and how it can be implemented in smarter ways:

and a sort of “study of studies” that provides insights as well:
