So, when I was a senior in college, I decided that i gave no more fucks about my “reputation” and decided to do something I enjoyed and hadn’t done since high school, and that was try out for the spring musical.

I got a small part, and was usually stuck in the back since I couldn’t dance for shit.

One day we didn’t have rehearsal. Instead, we had freekin’ James Earl Jones sit down for a discussion about acting, his life, whatever. We sat in a circle on the stage for an hour and just asked whatever came to mind.

I have no idea how it came about
I didn’t go to NYU or UCLA. This was at the Air Force Academy, which isn’t exactly known for their drama department or producing legendary actors.

It still doesn’t feel real that it happened, but it did, and I’ll be forever grateful.

This one hurts.

One of the things JEJ talked to us about extensively (more than he did in a lot of interviews, I think) was his severe stutter.

His speech therapist told him about the tried and true method of singing to get beyond the stutter. Well, he said his singing voice was so bad that one day he asked if he could try to do a monologue instead (he told us which one but I can’t for the life of me recall what it was). The rest is history.

It also explains why his voice sounds like it does. It’s not just that it’s deep, it’s that he basically speaks in metered form because that’s how he overcame his stutter.

Caterina Valente died; can only find German links though.

She played with all the greats!

Did some cultural appropriation though, too. :frowning:

I thought David letterman died.

JD Souther died on Tuesday at age 78. He was primarily a songwriter who wrote “New Kid in Town” for the Eagles and also worked with Linda Ronstadt and a lot of the singer-songwriter types from the 70’s. He had one pretty big hit as a singer. Dude could hit a high note.

LOL “shall remain nameless”.

I pride myself on coming up with great names for our bar trivia team (that and modern music are about my only consistently positive contributions), but I’m not sure I’ll ever beat when my wife suggested the team name of “Dead Solo Cup” the day after Toby Keith died.
