Which lab made the virus? Why did they do it?

I think people here are really losing focus on what’s important here. Who cares who got what score on some obscure test? Are we really going to make petty comparisons between a merit based scholarship vs a merit based inheriting of millions of dollars? You spell it wildebeest I spell it wildabeast. Not to mention all the glee over death tolls because someone was off by plus or minus 3022%.

Having read a good portion of this thread, there are plenty of issues where we share common ground with HNH that are being overlooked because people are too busy trying to score political points. Like, right off the top of my head without thinking about it all, almost all of us could agree it’s important to make sure every last person knows how to effectively use contraceptives. In my opinion you can never have too many contraceptives. I mean, you’ve never heard anyone say “Oh boy, I wish I hadn’t use contraceptives.” It’s sort of a no brainer that we could all get behind.

Actually lolled. Gold.

Everyone should read that article for a good laugh. Y’all are looking for things HnH actually believes that isn’t a troll response, this article is it. He credulously accepts the word of some no-name Confederate-LARPer living in the woods in Dothan-fucking-Alabama that, no folks, the Civil War was not about slavery, black people happily fought FOR the Confederacy and it was Lincoln who was the aggressor. Oh and by the way, Lincoln was REALLY motivated by taxing poor salt-of-the-earth southerners, not abolishing slavery. HnH smugly posted this as some kind of gotcha because he forgot that he stepped outside his back-slapping incel bubble and was instead dealing with people who actually read books and went to non-bible colleges.

I think this thread needs a new title. Motivated Reasoning: A Cautionary Tale.

Don’t be such a hater, bro. That provided me with a few hours of lockdown entertainment.

This is exactly like 2+2’s flat earth thread. I understand the bro posting - he’s a moron and this is the most attention he’ll ever get. I don’t understand everyone else’s fascination with engaging with a moron. I mean I could dunk on children but after a few thousands shots passerbys might wonder wtf is wrong with me.

Hello everyone,

It’s been a great October at the tables for both me and my students. I think we have set up just enough metagame in the first week that by the end of the month we should be out of the red and prospering in the deep pools of green that we all strive for.

Tonight, I want to share a lesson I am currently teaching my students. Poker at the elite level is about 75% bluffing, 25% odds. If you maintain this balance, you will be playing the nosebleed stakes before you know it. I tell my students all the time, balance is like a gymnast that tries out for the baseball team, it’s a different field but you’re still a gymnast. And now on to the hand.

Poker Stars, $3/$6 NL Hold’em Cash Game, 6 Players
LegoPoker Hand History Converter

BTN: $777.70
SB: $599.00
BB: $927.80
UTG: $602.25
Hero (MP): $543.15
CO: $540.80

As you can see, I am playing 3/6 NL. This level is widely considered the wasteland of poker. It’s the stakes that the unimaginative grinders play and is filled with players not good enough to play 5/10. Sometimes when I am struggling to outplay people at the more challenging 1/2 and 2/4 levels, I just go play 3/6 and catch the money that falls from the sky.

Pre-Flop: 2 6 dealt to Hero (MP)
UTG raises to $21, Hero calls $21, 4 folds.

This is a pretty standard play for me. I make the isolation call with the suited connector. If I’m unsuited, it goes without saying that this is a fold. I like to float preflop in this spot, UTG vs MP, because you can really narrow the range of the PFR and put them on hands easily. And floating with little cards is smart because they always put you on big cards.

Flop: ($51) 3 Q K (2 Players)
UTG bets $45, Hero calls $45.

That’s not a good flop for our villain. After he bets out huge, which is a clear sign of weakness, I can’t really put him on anything that connects hard with that flop. I put him on something like JT and in my eyes this is a perfect scenario for something I like to call the Mississippi Bluff.

The Mississippi Bluff is a complex play for advanced players. Only a few of us–like fgators, Nielsio and myself–read hands well enough to pull it off with a high success rate but it is extremely profitable. The bluff itself is simple. You call any flop and turn bets, push any river. Recognizing the spots to use the bluff…well, that’s an art form.

Turn: ($141) 3 (2 Players)
UTG bets $120, Hero calls $120.

This turn is a complete brick. The chances of him raising UTG and holding a 3 are negligible. But, that’s the perfect card for me. I should be able to fold out most of his range by repping a set of 3’s on the end.

River: ($381) 6 (2 Players)
UTG bets $350, Hero raises to $357.15 (all-in)…

Well, Villain has really put our complex bluff to the test with an awkward river bet size. To be perfectly honest, I’m not sure how much fold equity I really have here. However, I do have some showdown equity vs his range.

The mark of a strong player is to stick to the plan no matter what: Successful poker is all about persistence in the face of adversity. So, with that in mind, I aggressively make the push…

…after which, villain types a bunch of silly random letters in the chat box. He actually tanks for quite a long time. Now I’m thinking he might have a strong hand like AK and can’t see how he is good here. After a few more expletives typed into the chat box, he does make the call, shows J T and my hand is good.

The Mississippi Bluff is not for the quaint of heart. You need to close your eyes and follow it through to the end no matter the action. It is bold. It is aggressive. It is poker the way elite players play poker.

That’s all for now and we shall see you at the tables.

Grunch,

Is there anything worth reading in the last 300 post?

Did he admit he was wrong about the death toll?

LOL.

C’mon.

But we always knew the options were A) he would be proven right about the death toll; or B) the death toll is incorrect for reasons.

So you genuinely think you’re going to convince this dude to not only change his entire worldview but also go out and vote?

Hate to project motives on someone but I’m guessing it’s something a little more self serving and masturbatory than that.

Oh, absolutely. No denying that at all. I’m letting my frustration out on this fucker.

I assume you meant “intellectual masturbation”, tough. Otherwise, you’re barking up the wrong tree there, pal.

This post actually kinda makes sense to me. You’re scared out of your wits of the coronavirus, which you should be, so you’re posting a bunch of nonsense about how it actually isn’t that bad, because it makes you feel better. Accept the fear bro, it’ll help you make better decisions.

There’s a consistent pattern of logical fallacies found in these posts:

“A handful of Covid deaths may have been miscounted, therefore all death counts are unreliable.”

“Covid tests are not 100% accurate, therefore they are worthless.”

“I found one example of a merit scholarship, therefore we live in a perfect meritocracy.”

“One guy dropped out of college and was successful, therefore all money spent on education is wasted.”

“I don’t know anything, therefore nobody knows anything.”

Sort of fascinating to have this insight into such poor thinking. Sort of like Trump’s tweets. Ignorance is also a virus.

Appreciate the concern Marty, also i think @King_of_NY said he can call me if he wants to talk to me, I have his number blocked for now and do so off and on because otherwise i have an unstoppable flood of the same kind of shit that he posts here coming through my phone. I figured maybe on a public forum he would engage more normally but this thread is basically a carbon copy of what talking with him about politics is like.

As for the relationship it started deteriorating a couple years ago due to me changing from a, basically pull the lever for GOP cuz thats what my family and friends do/not informed about politics kinda person, to being an atheist-agnosticish person and very liberal. I think I’ve posted about it in the deplorables thread but he has no problem expressing racist/homophobic views and so for the most part we aren’t seeing each other than at group family events. I didnt go to his birthday get together recently that was basically just our immediate family because of the virus. He doesn’t believe that anything he says is racist or homophobic so I’m not sure that anything will change there. He apparently thinks I’ve just temporarily lost my way and will “sort my shit out” and everything will go back to how it was before or that I’m just virtue signaling for my wife/coworkers or something and am not actually a liberal.

Thats all I’ll say on it really and dont really plan to be active in this thread, i didnt see the posts last night until after a few hours had gone by but i do get some enjoyment out of some of the dunks posted for sure.

Won’t say anything more about his education history but i haven’t lied about anything here in this thread or other threads in the past on this site. I’ll leave future plans for the thread up to the mods but don’t have any problem with it staying up.
