Alabama coroners need a grand total of 0 medical experience. Why the fuck should I believe what coroner JoeBob says about coronavirus?

You’re right, here’s a different take. Some Alabama coroners think coronavirus claimed lives earlier this winter, others do not - al.com And as far as believing what “Joe bob” says - id be willing to bet you believe anything that causes you fear tbh.
The whole process of recording deaths is completely defunct. I’ve said it before but previously Medicare would pay for autopsies, but then they stopped so autopsies have been reserved for criminal investigations. The result is that the cause of death is pretty much a best guess for huge swaths of the country. Then you get into coroners being elected without having any medical knowledge and death certificates only requiring a cause of death and the comorbidities being option and the end result is that causes of death in the US just a complete shit show.

I looked at the data for a major hospital network in a major metropolitan area and I looked at admission rates during the January & February numbers and they looked about what you’d expect during the flu season. Our numbers didn’t start jumping into abnormal ranges until March which would be congruent with the virus starting in January or so in China and getting to the US in late February and early March.
