Breaking up with Amazon

Costco at least treats their employees well, from everything I’ve heard.

Well, if you successfully quit Amazon, I look forward to the subsequent Costco breakup.

So Costco is basically Walmart except they treat their employees better? It’s all over for me when I find out that Trader Joe’s is actually the biggest POS business around since they’re like the last retailer I actually enjoy shopping with (and they already dropped the ball somewhat by exposing their employees during the pandemic, although the one by me was by far the most on top of things early on in terms of distancing and not crowding their store).

We happily avoided joining Costco for years and I never saw a compelling reason to join but my wife wanted to get things for our daughter’s 2 year birthday party from there so we bit the bullet. Since then I’ve been obligated to go about once a month (pre-quarantine) and every time I go I absolutely hate it. The one closest to our house is an absolute clusterfuck at all hours and the parking lot feels like a demolition derby, although someone gave me a tip to use an alternate entrance which actually helped a ton. Inside you’ve got the same olds who drive 20 mph on the road pushing 200 lb shopping carts with zero regard for human life. If you get to the checkout line with your limbs intact you’re subjected to another disaster zone, although they at least usually go quickly. In exchange we get…cheap sheet cakes once or twice a year, a good price on La Croix, and a couple of decent products that are hard to find elsewhere.

Treating their employees better - or actually treating them well - is a pretty huge thing imo.

Also companies treating “their employees” well sticks in my craw, but I’m a weirdo. Abolish employers (and thus employees).

Sure, it’s why I’ll agree to shop at Costco Even though I hate the experience but haven’t spent a cent at Walmart in years.

Good news. We got a real alternative to Amazon!

I got a 4 pack of 4.8oz Colgate Total Whitening Toothpaste for $6.21 in January!

I switched from mostly Dove for men to Amazon Solimo brand products a few months ago and have been pretty happy with it. Quality the same or better for cheaper and I don’t even need to buy a 6 pack to save money and its so easy to order there is no need to have a pantry full of hoarded products if you don’t want or have the room.

It’s not that easy to order because of the number of outright fraudsters they’ve invited to the platform. However, it’t still easier than trying to buy from their dumbass competitors like Walgreens whose interface is like playing an RPG with menu diving.

What kind of stuff are you trying to buy on Amazon? I don’t think I’ve encountered a single scam after buying hundreds of items across a decade or more.

How would you know if you aren’t sending the items to the manufacturer for testing?

For the headquarters of a counterfeiting operation that had pulled in $1 million in five years, the house at 2685 Woodbridge Ave. was unremarkable: a two-story clapboard on a block of modest homes in suburban Edison, N.J. Only a black Lorex security camera perched above the front door suggested otherwise.

On cue, the agents raided the house. Inside they found Jorge Robles, Ana de la Mota, and their inventory: some 2,000 pieces of knockoff makeup labeled as premium MAC-brand cosmetics.

Had the products been genuine, each would’ve had a retail value of roughly $10,000; they paid about a third of that and resold the items at half off retail. They peddled on Amazon under the handle “Baby Castle.”

My wife has been jonesing for a Costco run but she didn’t want to go alone so I agreed to go with her today on the condition that we would leave if it was crazy, as I expected it to be. Well it ended up being by far the best visit to Costco we’ve had since joining; I don’t know if we just timed it right or if it’s some sort of backlash to their masking policy but it was by far the emptiest I’ve seen it. Probably could’ve lived without most of the stuff we bought (basically all food, which we will certainly eat) but at least they had a great deal on LED bulbs.

People are busy partying and yoloing, ain’t got time for shopping. Most people only went to grocery stores and box stores because they were not allowed anywhere else.

Live free little butterflies!

Next time you want to buy something from Amazon that’s not absolutely urgent at least post it here and give people a chance to find an alternative source for you.

(What you guys don’t know is that microbet and I are retail arbitrage dropshippers who will steer you to our eBay stores with fake listings of your item priced only slightly higher then use our PRIME memberships to buy for less and have it 2-day shipped to you for “free” by the actual holder of the goods.)

If you’re willing to order further in advance, not using Amazon is shockingly easy. Hell, I’ve shopped online just once in the last year!

This article is so depressing. I was already hesitant to buy anything from Amazon that I didn’t both need within a few days and need to last more than a few months. It’s been obvious for a few years that there are huge categories of things where you’re just selecting which branding of Chinese junk you want to purchase. I didn’t realize the extent of the issue though. I probably won’t renew my prime membership when it comes up.

Also yeah lol at the lawyer lady. Huge plot twist when she said actually the system is great.
