If you think the alternatives to democracy are bad, just wait untill you learn about the alternatives to capitalism.

Hybrid systems seem to be working quite well in many parts of Europe…

Similar hybrid system working fine in the US.

72 posts were split to a new topic: Capitalism vs. Socialism

I don’t necessarily disagree with this, but I think the dynamic of the parties in the US is more relevant than this suggests. We aren’t talking about an abstract hypothetical President and an abstract challenger. It is specifically a Dem sitting President and a Republican challenger. As the tie always goes to the runner in baseball, the tie always goes to the Rs in American Presidential politics. The voters who matter to the outcome (those that may vote for either party or may not show up) will en masse choose Republicans (at least they cut taxes!) UNLESS the Dems offer an explicit and clear value proposition to those voters who can be swayed to show up and vote Dem. At the moment the Dems aren’t offering that. Biden’s pitch in 2020 (“I will return life to normal”) won’t land this time because that’s not what people are desperate for. People are desperate for household financial relief. What will decide the election is if the voters that matter can be persuaded that Biden will provide household financial relief. If they are not convinced, they will not show up or they will vote for Trump because they think a vote for Republicans is a vote for tax cuts and all else equal they will take them.

I moved the capitalism/socialism discuss to a new thread as it wasn’t really about Biden anymore. I didn’t move everything as I thought the post I started with made for a solid opening post for that discussion.

Why does it show up as a thread created by me though when the first post is by @econophile?
No need to fix just curious.

Cue dog in a burning room meme.

the Biden campaign’s rapid-response architects will start using the term themselves.

They’ll use this frame to go after Trump

Fancy play syndrome.

I have no clue - as far as I’m aware I don’t have an option to control who created thread. It could be because the first post I selected to move was one of yours (I just selected a random off-topic post and then scrolled through the rest of the thread selecting other posts).

If you’re anti-Biden and the best compromise you’ll be able to get is the ability to pick his running mate under the premise that you’re betting on him not being able to finish his second term, who do you pick?

I guess I could wait for the video clips but I want to see the jackassery in context.

Maybe Boebert will start getting busy in the gallery

She’s probably there now, making sure she has an aisle seat.

The problem now is they have to ramp up the jackassery in order to get attention. Can’t just say “You lie!” like back in the simple olden days.
