All this bloody work and it ends like this?! Fuck these fucking people!
Ahem, sorry, bit of trouble with the mike there. Anyway, welcome to the awards ceremony. It’s been quite a journey and a very close finish, and I’d like to thank all the wonderful people taking part and voting that have made it possible.
< thunderous applause >
But enough of my yakking, let’s celebrate our worthy winners now certified as the greatest band with the greatest song in the whole world. Guaranteed. It’s Brighton’s Rizzle Kicks for the ear meltingly good Down with the Trumpets!
Congrats lads. Here they come now with their new manager, local impressario @SwankyWilder
< thunderous applause and hearty back slapping >
Guys, will this change you?
Yes, absolutely.
Well, thanks, enjoy yourselves out there. And to everyone else, go home.
< final thunderous applause, swanky puts trophy on head and goons about >
Winning by a single vote does have a little poetic justice to it after that run of second places. Have to give a bit of credit to swankydaughter who introduced me to the band in he first place.
If I can get a hold of a trumpet I will post a celebratory photo echoing the video, because as I mentioned at the time it was shot 10 minutes walk from my front door
Thanks pyat for putting in the work on this and congrats to Swanky for finally taking down a walrus, and not just any walrus but the granddaddy of them all
Thanks for putting this together. You run a Walrus of the finest pedigree.
Congrats on finally cracking first place Swanky! It is well deserved.
General thoughts - Not to diminish Swanky’s win at all, but I think Hokies observation is very prescient - this format has been interesting to observe as it is more likely to trim out the songs that win bigly with some and are a complete miss with others.
I still feel the winner represents what makes Walrus so great - A really fun song that I never would have heard otherwise, and goes into my regular playlist.
Any of El Cuarteto, Ruby Friedman, Charles Bradley, Jake Rose, Soul Fugue and Explosions in the Sky could potentially win that title. Any others are at least two degrees removed from the champion.
