Lol hadag nahash itt. Let me know if anyone needs translations
Drunken thoughts
Dead Queen-Digging the intro. Slow somewhat creepy intro building a vibe. Didnāt expect a high pitched female chorus after this, but enjoying the surprise. In my drunken thoughts, I have said repeatly I like long songs when I feel it is building to somethingā¦I kept waiting for this to build to something, got blue balls
Kick Out the Jams-A quick fun song. Other than POTUS two big songs dont know how much I know of them. But they are fun
Shir Nehama-Definitely a fun dollywood song.
Death Is the Road to Awe-You know, Iāve never watched The Fountain. It seems like something I should definitely watch at some point. Just watched Cloud Atlas the other day which from what I hear is kinda Fountainesque. Enjoyed it, weird movie though. But knew this song would build for a while I ranted that.
While randomly talking about Aronofsky score, it always seemed weird to me UK basketball used that Requiem for a Dream score for pump up music (you know the one). I guess it was good pump up music if you didnāt watch Requiem, instead it kind of made me sad every time they used the track.
Ranted all that and song is still going on. At least unlike Dead Queen this seems to be building to something. Took a quick pause with 2 minutes left just to build more. Cool film track. As much as I have talked about it, dont know it getting my vote
Riding For The Feeling-Such an awesome cool chill song. Easily gets my vote.
Fear Not This Night-Ending with a Guild Wars 2 track song. Didnāt see this coming.
You know what to break my vote Iām voting Kick out the Jams and Riding for the Feeling.
Tracked down two more delighted winners. One of the good things about doing this is being able to spread joy!
Bill Callahan
Jeremy Soule
fwiw Shir Nehama is a political protest song (the title means ācomfort songā and the text is about how people turn to mundane comfort because the system is so corrupt).
Group 12
First an unusual entry, a specific live performance of a song our 11 year old selves considered (arguably correctly) to be the finest ever written, Rage Against the Machineās Killing in the Name.
@cassette owned @CanadaMatt3004ās category all about live sing-a-longs.
Zach is the crowd king. Iāve seen Rage live, and its a transcendent experience. I lost pounds of body weight in sweat that night and I loved every second of it. Theyāre fucking chanting with the bass line and Tomās riff. Its chills worthy. Finsbury Park brings it hard and this is a very worth number 1.
Then a song that I suspect wonāt fare as well as when I judged it, King Crimsonās 21st Century Schizoid Man.
As above I thought @LouisCyphre did well in a round about the drums.
It kicks off with a psychedelic rock section that has a nice amount of aggression, with distorted vocals screeching away (Greg Lake out of ELP, apparently.) But itās after that, when the instrumental part gets going, that this coasted into top spot for me and never left. Itās jazz-rock in the late 60s/early 70s British style. Stuff like Soft Machine, Nucleus, Keith Tippett and a million minor Canterbury bands, music I just love. The drummerās almost comping, peppering the snare and the cymbals, but with a proper rock drive and volume and making sure to fill any possible space. Itās just great and I was somewhat amazed to read he left after this album citing musical differences and wanting to do more laid back stuff?!
The song doesnāt end there, though, fitting in a few feedback moments and also reprising the vocal section, before ending in a proper rock freak out. All very satisfying stuff and the only false move it makes is not ending with the traditional drum crash after he hammers the cymbals to bring everyone to the crescendo. It might be cliched but it got that way for a reasonāitās fucking great. Anyway, a worthy winner in a category I ended up enjoying listening to.
And thirdly we have Anna Calvi telling us of Suzanne and I.
@Pauwl sucked @suzzer99 with this song then hit him with a twist, which was the point of the round.
The opening guitar notes just grab me. Iām a huge sucker for a gothic doom-purporting bass line. And then you throw on a female lead singer ethereally belting out across the transcendental plane? Yeah that hits all the suzzer buttons.
This is like the best song Siouxsie and the Banshees and 4 Non Blondes wish they ever made. Florence and the Machine tip their cap.
Next up 10 Years with Wasteland
@CandaMatt3004 persuaded @Nicholasp27 that his favourite artist really was the best.
In first place is a good alternative/hard rock song from the 00ās, when I didnāt listen to a ton of newer rock music. I feel like Iāve heard this song before now, but I canāt place it and donāt know the artist. This is right in my wheelhouse for when Iām in the mood for alternative/hard rock.
Then Gordon Lightfoot regaling us about The Wreck of the Edmunds Fitzgerald.
@suzzer99 told this great story for @LouisCuphre.
It was immediately a gold medal favorite because itās such a great fit for the category. It finished half a length ahead of Mike Oldfield because of that. This is like listening to a modern day bard. A beautiful voice tells you a great sad story while the guitar hits all the right notes. Not too soft, not too harsh, just right for this tragic tale.
And finally Phoenix Rise who wants to Protest.
@SwankyWilder won @eyeboogerās round about political songs from recent times (2017+)
I wasnāt expecting a straight up BANGER for this category, but here we are. The beat, the lyrics, the flow are all top notch and have been stuck in my head for most of the day. This was the only song on the artistās Youtube page at the time of submission, so I donāt know how the hell you found this, but congrats.
Vote!!

Still have my ticket to see Rage and Run The Jewels in Oakland which was postponed from April 20 to April 21. Please get the vaccine out before my visa ends thank you.
Thatās going to be a tough category.
Clear winner in this round!
Tough round
Protest clear vote; after that lots of options for second
Weird group with 4 of the 6 songs being reasonably famous.
Not that any of those are bad, but Iām going with the two that arenāt.
Drunken Thoughts
Killing In The Name (Live At Finsbury Park)-An obvious classic. Given the category was live sing-a-longs what a killer pick. RATM had the crowd completely into it. I mean the entire crowd is bouncing to it. Never seen this specific performance before. Awesome performance.
21st Century Schizoid Man-A song with under 2 million youtube that I knew before. Weird how this doesnāt seem to have more hits. Thought this was a bigger classic. Kayne even sampled it. Absolutely love this song. Part 1 going into instrumental, going back to part 3, every piece is just so cool. King Crimson deserves more love than they get. I hate to get biased after two songs, but something is going to have to blow me away.
Suzanne and I-Cool chill song. I dig it. She does have a really good voice.
Wasteland-I donāt know. Something just not working for me.
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald-Yeah heard this one before. Cool chill song that doesnāt do much for me. Weird that I call this chill when its about a shipwreck? Itās fun and a cool tale, but like Iāve said Iām not a lyrics guy.
Protest-Not quite my tempo. But I respect it.
I might have voted Suzanne and I over studio Killing in the Name, but enjoyed that live performance. Going Killing and Schizoid
I didnāt know this either, but most of the comments on that video are about how Fripp was very anal about keeping his music off youtubes and filesharing prior to relenting (on youtube) about a year ago. So itās not had as much chance as most songs to rack up them views.
Thatās odd seeing how he likes to boast that KC were the best band in the world and tries to cite Hendrix.
Much prefer his work with Eno.
Tough one but mostly because nothing really blew me away and I already knew a few of these songs quite well. King Crimson was definitely my favorite, then was between Protest and Wasteland - ended up picking Protest since there was a tie and really donāt want a RATM/Gordon Lightfoot top 2
After pyatnitski hated my drum entry I think I left the thread early in disgust. Iāve never heard that King Crimson track. Preeeeeetty good. Pretty, pretty good.
Give thanks to your winners.
RATM
Phoenix Rise
Unlucky for some!
Group 13
Kicking it off with a stormer, though, Holy Fuck and their Tone Bank Jungle
@seities knew what I wanted when I asked for Repetition.
This song is exactly what I wanted to hear in this category, I got very excited the first time I heard it and nothing ever came close.
Itās obviously made by people with a bunch of krautrock records, but theyāve also been keeping up with a lot more stuff. It has a poppy, danceable edge that Kraftwerk would be jealous of, but with way more humanity and error than they would ever get involved with. The multiple builds and releases are more reminiscent of dance music, and the playing has a loose, almost improvised edge. In short, itās excellent.
Next Vampire Weekend and A-Punk.
@beetlejuice persuaded @King_of_NY that this was the best New York outfit. Which I guess makes beetle the real King of New York, ha ha ha!
This hits all the right notes. Itās short, happy with a beautiful simple melody. And itās new to me. DO NOT CONGRATULATE
Then a pure classic from Arrow whoās Hot Hot Hot.
I gave @SwankyWilder the win in a round about songs that came with an anecdote.
If no-one else is my kids are sick of this anecdote. 1986 Notting Hill Carnival in West London. The song being pumped out by all the sound systems was Hot Hot Hot by Arrow. I was wandering about pleasantly stoned, swigging Red Stripe by the can, when I became transfixed by this beautiful creature dancing and lost in the rhythm of the song.
Yadda Yadda Yadda, 35 years later we are still together.
I mean, disgusting. I knew one of you would tell some unacceptable story, but did it have to be the winner?
Arrow is from Montserrat and this is apparently Soca music. I must have heard this version before but I never listened. Itās just great fun from start to finish, thatās all there is to it.
