Bailout / Stimulus Discussion (Hints Missed & Shartz Fired)

IRS agents probably surrounding the house due to some kind of perceived fraud?

How the hell do I know? It’s an effin mystery to what they are doing. One thing I read says no way no how on forgiveness, then I read the opposite.

Seriously, I’m sure it will work out eventually. Good luck.

I wasn’t directing that at you Dan. Just venting a bit with the shrugging there.

And I was trying to be funny. No worries.

Woo hoo what a week. EIDL then Stimulus and now PA UI for 560/week (maybe the feds throw 600 on top???!)

Now I have to figure out how to fill out the weekly claim certifications. Some of the questions don’t apply well to the self employed.

I have been fortunate at age 55 to never have had to deal with this before.

Received ours yesterday, ~10-12 days after updating our direct deposit info on the gov. website. Hope others aren’t too far off that timeline.

Probably donating a portion to immigrant family separation causes and then throwing the rest at local businesses that are struggling. We still don’t feel super-comfortable with takeout, but gift cards are always an option.

An emergency disaster lending program for small businesses has been so overwhelmed by demand that it has started drastically limiting the size of loans it issues, while blocking nearly all new applications from small businesses, according to people familiar with the situation.

The Economic Injury Disaster Loan program is a longstanding Small Business Administration program that’s separate from the new Paycheck Protection Program, which has challenges of its own.

The disaster loan program was given more than $50 billion in new funding by Congress in recent relief bills to offer quick-turnaround loans to businesses slammed by the coronavirus. But by many accounts it is failing spectacularly. After initially telling businesses that individual disaster loans could be as high as $2 million, SBA has now instituted a $150,000 cap without publicly announcing the change, said a person familiar with the situation who was not authorized to speak publicly.

That’s impressive for somebody in research, although I think you mentioned working for a large company for a while. I’ve mostly worked for small early stage companies and have been laid off twice and survived the cuts like another 10 to 12 times over the years.

I’ve worked for

1x non profit
2x startup spinoff from large public companies or joint ventures
1x directly a very large private company
2x venture startups

Some of those were sitting at the same desk as the structure above me changed. I was fortunate to survive at least 10 lay-off days.

The one that got me I knew was coming as they were doing a business pivot away from my expertise. I’d already dropped to 1/2 time and started consulting by mutual agreement, so when I got completely cut I was able to switch to full time consulting.

I did find out I got a shorter severance period than peers, though I can’t bitch too much as HR and legal did yeoman’s work on my behalf to enable my first big consulting agreement. So I got less “free” cash but I was able to replace my income pretty much immediately.

PA UI Update

Filled out the 5 weekly certifications to date which interestingly were not identical.

The second week asked why I didn’t work and there 7-8 confusing options and I clicked on “lack of work offered”. It didn’t lick that so now I’m back under review. It was hard to figure out which was correct for independent consultant that bills as a business (not 1099) and all clients are shut down.

I sent a note thru the message explaining. Guess will see what happens.

Welp, just overheard my wife talking on the phone behind closed doors and it sounds like she just lost her job. Just waiting for her to emerge and let me know.

Time to get that sweet, sweet unemployment.

Man that sucks. Not only is my wife’s income very important to get through this with me earning $0, if she wasn’t working it would be very very hard on her. I’m much more naturally lazy. I can kill a whole day watching TV shows form the 70s if the mood hits.

Sorry to hear that :worried:

Yup, my wife brings home the bacon in our family. I probably don’t even make enough to support just myself. She’s in the insurance industry, so I suppose there’s a chance she could find something, but I’m not counting on it right now.

Just a note if this is applicable to any friends or family.

People on SSI who have not filed taxes in the last two years, and have no children will receive their direct deposit on May 13th. If they do not have direct deposit, the check will be mailed on May 15th.

This is one of the last first time groups pending I believe (not sure if veterans are still pending).

I know the IRS is still trying to figure out what to do with people on Social Security who have a payee designation. The payee designation is used by social security to provide a third party with social security income for someone they have oversight for. Payee has no meaning or authorization for the IRS and they are still trying to decide how they will distribute the stimulus.

After next week, I suspect people that have special circumstances or didn’t get paid due IRS error will be all that is left for the stimulus besides any non tax filing, non social security relieving people who did not fill out the non filer form.

If I here of any other specific groups still not having been processed I will pass it along.

Sorry to hear that. What does she do?

I know several people who haven’t filed 19 yet and owed in 18 who haven’t gotten anything and can’t log into the internet tool. Are we just SOL at this point?

She’s been working for insurance brokerages, dealing with business clients. This job was as an account manager (she wasn’t selling). Her company’s clients were all government: counties, municipalities, school districts, etc. So with tax revenues taking a nose dive, that was that.

In the past, her favorite role has been as a client advocate, essentially the person who helps the client or employees at the client with any issues they’re having with the insurance company. She’s the one who goes to bat for them and gets shit done. She wasn’t as comfortable as an account manager, but she was growing into the role.

I am not sure. Because I don’t know if they have bank account data for people who only owed.

Looking around I see lots of people in the same boat. Even if only 1% of people are being hung out there that is millions of people.

That they can not provide a better system for verifying if you are in the system is maddening.

Based on my speculation I would think people in your situation got passed over for a direct deposit and a mailed check. Thinking about it now if you did not have direct deposit information you should have gotten a check. I think most of that has happened so far though, so I don’t have any good additional insight.

Plus when this all started the IRS said it could be September before everyone gets a check.

Do you have any children you are claiming for the stimulus?

No children.
