This fight is continuing/expanding
The academy is changing their rules to where Netflix wanted them a couple years ago and not requiring theater runs for nominated films.
The theaters are going to lose this fight because it is not up to them or the studios.
I don’t think movie theaters go away but they will have a modified role in the future. And it’s not all bad, they will likely host many blockbuster movies; which is all they care about anyways.
Kids movies? They are likely going to have to accept simultaneous release. Same with everything else besides superhero movies.
The theaters have zero leverage right now so it seems a bit weird time to be making this stand.
As for me I used to go to the movie theater 4-5 times a week for years and years. If I go once a year now I would be surprised. I would much rather the home delay not exist.
Yeah the theaters are boned. One of the first things I did when shit started to hit the fan was buy a 70" TV and set up a real home theater situation in my house. We all love it. If I have the option to pay studios directly to watch first-run movies in my house I think I’ll take it every time. The only real advantage theaters have is that my kids aren’t there.
I do like the small documentary theater in my neighborhood, it’s a fun place to go. The mainstream theaters suck though.
Yeah, don’t think anyone will miss 30 minutes of previews and a $22 popcorn “combo meal.”
Great news! According to NBC, ~90 million people have already received their stimulus checks, and another 60 million will receive them by… the middle of summer.
eta VIDEO PROOF
It’s mostly a nostalgia thing, but there is a little something to watching a loud action flick while gorging on butter-soaked popcorn and raisinets once in a while. Still, it doesn’t take much to satisfy that urge, probably go like 3-4x/year these days. We even have a drive-in a mile away for added novelty, but that was more fun when our kids were young and they’d camp out in the back of the SUV in their pajamas.
For a few years my wife and I did those weekend things AMC had where you’d go for two marathon days and watch all the Best Picture nominees. Was actually pretty cheap per movie, we got to see some good stuff that we wouldn’t have bothered with otherwise, and the employees would come in between movies and do fun stuff like give away posters for answering trivia questions. Eventually we kinda started to dread the time commitment, though.
How Lendio was leaking people’s PPP information.
One weird trick confirmed never works. If I can’t ever get the stupid IRS site to work do they just mail me a check eventually or what?
I finally got it to work this weekend
Amid concerns that money earmarked for smaller lenders was running low, the SBA informed lenders Wednesday that only financial institutions with less than $1 billion in assets would be able to input Paycheck Protection Program applications into the SBA system between 4 p.m. ET and midnight.
SBA also said that they, in consultation with Treasury, would reevaluate to see if more reserved time would be needed for smaller banks to input loans in the future.
Being a small business with a big bank sure doesn’t feel very good right now.
Pretty sure the pay to line says “Bruce Z”.
I’m pretty sure it would NOT say Bruce Z.
The Trump stuff doesn’t match anything else on the check and almost looks photoshopped in the picture I took.
Would be pretty LOL if tthey just ran the check sheets through a regular copy machine.
I send all the necessary docs to one of my boss’s banks (it is a big bank) on April 3 to apply for PPP loans for 3 of our companies. Last week, we got approval for the smallest of the 3. They have been giving us the run around on the other 2 apps, not even able to tell us if they had been sent to the SBA. Today we decided to give another bank that we use (a smaller bank with only 8 branches nationwide) a shot after finding out they were doing them. The apps for the 2 companies were submitted around 4:00, and APPROVED AND FUNDED about two hours later. Seems like a miracle, and another sign in favor of smaller banks.
Me, too. Well, I actually got it to work last Thursday or Friday, but then the site had technical problems when I finally submitted my bank info. Got the bank info to take on Saturday. Have not received my direct deposit yet.
So I now have a $1,000 grant in my bank account from the EIDL program. I put in my application very early, I believe on the 2nd or 3rd day. I also have a hard pull on my credit report from the SBA.
What I do not have is any communication at all about anything beyond a form letter on April 14th telling me about the $1,000 per employee limit. I have absolutely no idea what’s going on, but aorn I have a grand to rub on my titties.
