Bailout / Stimulus Discussion (Hints Missed & Shartz Fired)

4% of Florida’s unemployment claims have resulted in checks paid out so far since this pandemic hit

4%

Oh shit.

I had my freeze put back on on April 10.

Fuck. Gonna get that removed.

I’m not 100% sure that’s it, but I’m digging and will let you know.

I do not have a freeze or any other current flags on my credit.

I’m finding plenty of people that did not have any problems using the website to check status even though their credit is frozen, so that doesn’t appear to be the problem.

Maybe a promising lead I found on bogleheads:

I finally figured out why the “Get My Payment” tool said my information did not match their records.

Check to make sure the address you are entering matches the spelling for what the USPS has for your address.

The tool is using the USPS validated version of your address and NOT the address you entered in your tax returns.

You can validate your address through the USPS at https://tools.usps.com/zip-code-lookup.htm?byaddress

This USPS tool gives me a slightly different rendering for my address than I would have expected, and it’s definitely different than what I used to file.

I’ll try tomorrow as I’m locked out again for being a bad boy.

Just entered exactly as show on the usps website and still got the error.

Same

Bummer, I was hoping that was it for everybody. Several people reported that this had fixed their issue.

Of course, any programmer with half a brain would first check the user entry and correct to the validated version before testing against their database record for your account, but unfortunately there are more programmers than available brains. Although good news! There are now plenty of unemployed brains available.

Still getting the error.

Ok, one more thing from bogleheads that probably captures the rest of us that continue to have problems:

This morning I read on a private accounting & tax forum that IRS doesn’t yet have all their 2018 information loaded to the “Get My Payment” site. It’s an ongoing process but took second place to their primary task of getting out checks to the low-hanging fruit → people who had entered Direct Deposit of refunds for 2018 and early 2019 electronic filers. (They are presently not processing 2019 paper returns at all)

All that is to say that the document loading process is ongoing, which would explain why some people can get info while others are getting the boilerplate error message. The general consensus (not universal) was to be patient and not give up. Also, repeated efforts over a short period of time simply overload the system. I’m suggesting that people check no more than once or twice per day, but to keep checking. Sooner or later they will “get your number”, and once that happens you can also upload Direct Deposit info if necessary.

The above is all speculation, but makes good sense given the enormity of the task IRS is trying to accomplish here.

Same :(

No freeze

I got:

Payment Status Not Available
According to information that we have on file, we cannot determine your eligibility for a payment at this time.

I feel like this is slightly different, right?

That task being the processing of information they’ve had for 2 years.

There are people on bogleheads who are ineligible because they did large Roth conversions, hard to feel super bad for these folks but the design of this thing is just so, so bad.

Technically, 1 year or a little longer. I filed 2018 taxes a couple of days before the deadline. And I’ve heard that they have been losing staff to cuts for years now, but I don’t really know if it’s true.

In any case, the IRS could have at least explained this on the website or during some of the interviews they did responding to this problem over the last few days. Instead, they gave a small list of legit reasons and basically said “user error” if you don’t fall into one of the reason categories. So fuck 'em.

Nope. Same I’ve been getting for two days now

Ours will be reduced due to a Roth conversion in 2018. But it will be further reduced if it gets processed based on 2019 AGI because we both made a lot more in 2019 than 2018.
