Yeah at this point I’m saying, “We passed the HEROES Act in May. Pass it, pass something else yourself, or let’s see how Trump’s EOs work. We’ll keep passing new versions of the HEROES Act with more and more money for the working people every week, while you sit on your asses and do nothing and we’ll see how that plays.”
Then I’m passing a resolution reminding the country about the HEROES Act, and booking high ranking Dems on every show on every news channel all day.
Give me 60 seconds with Pelosi and here’s the elevator pitch:
The stock market is going to crash when investors realize no help is coming and half the country is defaulting on rent 9/1 and like 30% on mortgages.
When the stock market crashes, the GOP has to fold and give you the full HEROES Act. That will happen before 9/1.
It will appear to be too late to save people by 9/1 at that point, but it won’t. You will NOT be able to get CARES Act back up and running in time. You WILL be able to get large stimulus checks out to people because that can be done much faster just like the first round was. Cut everyone in the country a check for $4,000. Urge landlords and creditors to give a two-week grace period to grease the skids.
Take a victory lap to tell the American people you just gave everyone $4,000 the GOP didn’t want to give them, and that’s how you’re going to continue to manage this pandemic next year if elected. With strong assistance to EVERYONE.
Pelosi: Officers arrest this commie. She knows all this, no way she doesn’t. She just doesn’t want to do it. I guess maybe the feeling of being the adult in the room could just be too strong but I’m leaning towards complicit.
That said I do have to give Nancy credit, she saw that impeachment would backfire in a huge way and it did while we all thought it would be great. Trump went from a dog to the favorite after impeachment. Now you could argue it was played wrong and I agree, but I don’t think it would have mattered how they played it.
Impeachment backfiring and Trump and Co realizing there is zero consequences to outright cheating is also why they’re doing the outright fascism shit and going to straight up cheat. I don’t think with them crushing impeachment so hard that Trumps approval ratings were at all time highs after CLEARLY cheating and doing illegal shit they’d be doing a lot of the stuff they’re doing now.
I don’t know where I fall on impeachment, they had to do something, but it ended up so obviously bad for our side that either option really fucking sucked.
You still have to do the right thing. It was correct to impeach Trump and get it on the record. It’s not Pelosi and Schiff’s fault half the country are brain dead morons.
Probably true, as doing nothing would have split the left super hard and made a lot of us, me included, that democrats weren’t voting for at any cost. That said, I do wish they hadn’t of found out until after the election lol.
Basically WAAF and this is why Pelosi is trying hard to make a deal, she realizes dems will eat the blame too regardless of what the reality is. People are stupid as fuck.
Basically polling like that ensures Republicans won’t budge much on their side, and dems will either cave or nobody gets shit and eat equal or more blame.
I mean I don’t disagree but if people are so stupid and easy to persuade why can’t the eDems ever manage to persuade them? I don’t think we should let them off the hook, they literally never, ever, learn.
You don’t get positions of power in the Dem party through competence. You get there by licking the right boots as often as possible. Literally our beacons of hope in AOC/Bernie have to work outside the framework of the party structure for this reason. They both would have no chance getting to DC on the same path most of the Dem caucus took.
I think you are overstating the importance of one poll. Presidential election years are all about the presidential race. They can drag their party into majorities along with them. (See: Obama, Barack, 2008). If the country is burning come November people will be ready for a change.
I hope you’re right but it’s clear this isn’t going to be a big dem win. People will be equally split on who’s at fault for it burning at the both sides might just not vote which hurts us way more
I wouldn’t worry about voter enthusiasm this time around. If there’s one thing Donald does for sure it’s inspire strong opinions. People at this point either love him or hate him and either way they have every intention of showing up to vote for or against him. Biden and Harris very nearly don’t matter tbh.
Biden can go out and say all kinds of stupid shit and it won’t matter because his opponent is Trump and this election is about how we, as a nation, feel about our experiment with electing a genuine moron president.
The 2020 election is literally reality vs fantasy. D v R isn’t about policy anymore, it isn’t even really about Trump it just feels that way because malignant narcissists are experts at sucking all the oxygen out of a room. This Dems, for all their many many faults, at least tend to live in reality. They talk about real problems that actually exist and propose solutions ranging from inadequate to ok. Not the most inspiring to be sure. BUT the Rs literally deal in pure fantasy. They deny obvious problems. They propose policies that only work in R fantasy land. They offer nothing to help anyone except the overwhelmingly advantaged who benefit from total ignorance of the population. This election is really posing a simple but scary question - does the voting public want to deal with reality? I’m not confident about this at all. Denial and tribalism are powerful.
I think you missed the part where Mitch fucking McConnell wants to reopen negotiations. He is running super scared at just how bad this whole executive order gambit is turning out. Just two days ago he said that he fully supported the president’s EOs, and now he wants to start negotiating again? Hes shook. That’s a much bigger win than a single poll that shows 40% of this country are idiots (something we already knew when they voted for Trump in the first place)
I think the answer to that question was clearly no… before the pandemic. People very much want things to go back to normal so they can go back to denying reality. Trump is very very very clearly not an agent of normalcy. I think we crush the normie vote here honestly.
I agree that the GOP deals in pure fantasy, which is a direct result of nothing ever getting done in politics for decades now. What you propose doesn’t actually have to work if it’ll never get done. The GOP have leaned into this ‘but it’ll never get done’ thing to propose all kinds of wild shit that appeals to their voters specifically. The Democrats have stubbornly refused to stop demanding that the voters eat their broccoli. I think it’s a toss up on who is more full of shit in this environment hilariously. The Democrats who pretend that we’re going to actually try to solve our problems in a real world way or the GOP who pretend that their cracked out pure red meat policy ideas would work at all in real life.
