Bailout / Stimulus Discussion (Hints Missed & Shartz Fired)

This is the dilemma facing the Democratic Party. We cave every time on this stuff because of the human suffering, then 6-12 months later we’re in a new and worse crisis and cave again.

The GOP gives zero fucks if 43 million people end up homeless or starve. They will just blame socialist Democrats and MS-13 and their donor class will be doing just fine. Until the Dems take a stand, they will keep getting their asses kicked.

Every time is a gross time to take a stand, but kicking this can to late November and attempting to do it after the election when Trump either won’t care at all or will want to punish the country for voting him out is a whole new recipe for disastrous human suffering.

What is the dilemma? I don’t see why now is a gross time to take a stand

Because 43 million people could get evicted, millions will go hungry, etc.

They could also just wait until he is voted out and the republicans lose the senate and then with the majority spend the next 4 years passing shit that actually helps people and shift that Overton window way the fuck to the left.

So the dilemma is that it might be bad politics to help these people?

You know what would help people? FUCKING SINGLE PAYER NATIONAL HEALTH CARE. If letting Donald Trump and Republicans take credit for Trump Bucks, complete with that fat piece of shit’s signature on the checks, makes it even 5% more likely they remain in power, it’s a bad deal for democrats. It’s time to stop being complete wimps and play the long game for once.

This honestly cannot be stressed enough. They’d probably think of 43 million people getting evicted is a good thing. They’re deranged and don’t care how much suffering they cause.

They don’t care about the 43m, but they do care about that absurd GDP number yesterday. Mitch isn’t interested in the country totally going to hell before the election, they probably can’t cheat enough to make up a 10% margin.

Yeah there is obviously a reason the GOP offered a skinny bill unemployment extension and it isn’t because they care about people suffering. They know they and Trump will eat the blame.

That said we aren’t going to be the ones starving or homeless.

Apparently neither do a few people itt

Caving literally every time to Cocaine Mitch is a winning strategy guys! It can’t lose everytime so this has to be the time it works!

Are the people in this thread suggesting voting for another Mitch McConnell bill serious. What the fuck is happening. Oh no they might gaslight the American public if we don’t vote for it!!! As opposed to what exactly?

That’s not fair. We keep caving in these spots and they lead to worse and worse spots. Like at some point we have to take a stand. If it’s not this time, it might be even worse next time. Everyone here cares about the people impacted, but we’re also weighing the people impacted in the future by this loop of caving.

In fairness, there are very real and immediate consequences to not passing this for millions of people. There will be those who lose everything, become homeless, and die. I get why people want to cave. If I was in Congress I don’t know if I could vote against it, it would be a hellish spot.

This is just justifying kicking the can down the road bullshit. At some point standing up to the bully and taking a beating gives you better long term results.

It is exactly fair. Riverman isn’t being subtle here. He’s owning it.

I suppose you could try to make an argument about the greater good is served for a “five percent chance” less of a trump second term, but I don’t think y’all could imagine telling someone they were on the street and starving for that five percent equity.

That’s assuming your argument until that point as well. I don’t agree that democrats concede any political points here by allowing a stimulus to pass. Trump didn’t get points for the first one. He won’t get points for this one. As long as he still acts like Trump in the middle of #actualimportantshitthatmattersrightnow, he will continue to suffer. Withholding the stimulus won’t change anything electorally and it would just hurt people. Real people.

You’re 8+ pts ahead in the general with flipping the senate on the table. It’s completely realistic to have a democratic controlled government in November. Seems like the bully is being stood up to

The argument should be 600 or nothing where the Republicans get fucked if they don’t vote for it. Not 200 or nothing and the Dems get got. As always the party is losing the PR battle and that will be why they cave. It’s a decades long broken record at this point.

At least we can all agree

Dems every time

I agree, but there are millions of people facing evictions right now. The stakes are extremely high. Being the party that gives a fuck is like an automatic disadvantage unfortunately. Factor in incompetence/complicity and it’s even worse.

This isn’t just about Trump. This is about the GOP repeatedly taking hostages. CHIP, Dreamers, separated families, etc.

The political win for the GOP is doing an extension longer than 3 months and one week. They do not do not do not want this making headlines the week before the election. Kicking it into the (hopefully) lame duck gives them a perfect hostage taking situation with no electoral downside.

The Dems should pass a series of increasingly generous versions. Bigger stimulus checks, better unemployment enhancement, hazard pay for frontline workers, etc. They should pass something weekly. Make headlines.

Dems pass $600 unemployment extension and $1200 stimulus

Dems Pass $600 unemployment extension and $2400 stimulus

GOP Blocks Dem Proposal to Give Every American $3600

Etc etc
