Arts and Entertainment LC Thread

The worst part for me is I really don’t even know what the best outcome is for me personally. I do a lot of work for WB and would prefer that not to change.

They are going to comply for all movies in the pipeline. It’s after that they will stop putting them in theatres.

No way the contract has a clause that WB films have to be in theatres forever in perpetuity.

How much do you want our company Netflix? Hmmmmm? What’s it worth to you?

This is basically the perfect situation to add a poison pill, which is more frequent than you think.

The Netflix takeover of Warner Bros. film, TV studio, and streaming is now ‘relatively’ likely to happen. Netflix has entered exclusive deal talks to purchase those assets. Paramount Skydance has officially lost.

This will probably take a minimum of 2 years to complete if Netflix gives an acceptable deal. WBD will be forced to spinoff all other assets before any deal is to close (was being planned already), and I suspect (because whiny baby Larry Ellison will go crying to daddy) this will face significant regulatory hurdles if not a nearly immediate block.

The industry is also quite mad about this potential deal and thinks it’s a massive cannibalization which it always is when studios merge. Apparently WB is set up better to deal with redundancies, so this may not be as high an impact situation for many employees after the massive bloodletting that happened in 2024 that really trimmed down WB.

That was quick.

This sucks.

You got me on ignore? :(

Nah, just crazy to me that it went from “Netflix in exclusive negotiations” to “Netflix close to a deal” to “Netflix owns WB” in ~12 hours.

Zaslav gotta get paid! It’s his raison d’etre.

Did those headlines represent changes in the status quo or changes to how it was being reported? There’s often a waterfall effect, in how news disseminates, and sometimes that can impact the news itself, but hard to imagine the latter occuring in a deal this size.

That was straight Netflix PR (it’s a press release from the Netflix site). No one is going to report like that.

When this deal closes Netflix will own Citizen Kane.

I’m very glad to have it on Criterion 4K.
