Quite the opposite. I don’t feel I’m a tough guy. But I know people (or have friends with relatives who live in rural areas of the country). They can survive just fine without their daily iced caramel ribbon crunch frappuccino and call of duty time. Most homes in rural texas have real fireplaces stocked with firewood at the ready. If you’re trying to make the case that rural Texans suffered even close to the same hardship that urban folks did from a failed power grid, you’re gonna have to try much harder to be convincing. I’m not saying it’s the fault of the people who live in bigger cities or that they deserved it by any means, but their hardship and inconvenience was many times greater than rural people
And I hope you’re kidding about flushing toilets. Any idiot knows that if you’re near a river or lake, or even snow, a toilet can easily be flushed without running water or electricty
I’m sure and it’s terrible. It’s terrible for any kid to get bullied online. Even many cis teens have been driven to suicide from online bullying. Social media and what to do with it is a whole other subject that I’d like to discuss. Of course, not here. I haven’t seen a productive idea for an actual problem or solution here since I first found this site
Peterson’s has some abhorrent viewpoints imo and afaik, his claim to fame was in refusing to abide by a Canadian law requiring the use of preferred gender pronouns. From there, he’s spewed nothing but sexist misogynistic nonsense that I find disturbing and disgusting. Nevertheless, he’s a professor and educator and I feel should be heard out. And then other intellectuals can rip his arguments to pieces

I never said a constitutional right was violated. I don’t even think Dawkins even lives in the states. I simply asked if we’re in danger of losing this right. I had Canada on my mind while making this thread. I’ve mentioned that at least 10 times and no one has yet responded to the Canadian law requiring the use of gender pronouns. They’d rather misconstrue my intent and lie making it look like Dawkins’ feelings are my biggest concern. If it can happen there, it can happen here. Are we okay with that?
As far as I understand it, there is no law requiring use of preferred gender pronouns in Canada. There is a law adding gender identity and expression to Canada’s human rights law, which Peterson claims will lead to being prosecuted for not using preferred pronouns, but Canadian law experts seem to disagree with him about that.
So your OP is built around a fundamentally flawed premise.

No one has been arrested or charged in Canada for misgendering. It hasn’t happened and won’t happen. If that was the intent of the law, this would have happened once in 5 years, no? Unlike in America, our courts are not a political battleground.
Canada, even with hate speech laws and amendments, has much more free speech than the USA imo. It’s just not a dumb ideological battleground for morons.

In 2016, Canada amended a bill to broaden their laws against discrimination to include trans people.
Also in 2016, Trump was elected. One of the lead to massive police crackdowns, brutality, violence, threats against the media, violence against the media and one has lead to 0 arrests, violent actions or charges. Bur, free speech is in trouble in

To the extent you’re being strawmanned it’s for much the same reason Jordan Peterson gets strawmanned: the destination your arguments lead to are so weak–and in Peterson’s case, often bigoted–that you stop short of fully fleshing them out and thus can claim to be strawmanned when they’re called out.
