Are Capitalism and Racism Conjoined Twins Inexorably Linked?

You can’t expect me to read 12,000+ words and respond to them right away. I bookmarked the articles to read in full later, responded to the excerpts, and read the shorter one.

Meanwhile you’re the only person in this debate on your side who has provided anything other than “fuck all capitalism” and “go educate yourself” and “Nordic capitalism can’t work but I admit I don’t really know much about it,” so at least thanks for bringing some substance to the table.

Online political debate would be significantly improved if people had to go beyond pointing out problems to providing suggested solutions.

It’s easy to say what’s wrong with the world.

I think that is what capitalism means to a lot of us. We aren’t necessarily using the Marxist definition of capitalism.

It’s like these economic wizards were asleep in Econ101:

Yet here we are

Guess we’re going to go around in circles here. You don’t get to just declare them equivalent and drop the mic and tell everyone to fuck off cause you’re the smartest. But I’m really enjoying you being a condescending prick as I do homework for everyone on my positions. Quite classy.

Anti-slavery is not anti all capitalism. You continue to attempt to bully me into a false equivalence that I refuse to accept. You can be anti-slavery and anti-capitalism or you can just be fucking anti-slavery.

While slavery means the slaves did not control the means, it does not mean that all systems in which the workers do not control the means are slavery. You want to make that connection because it suits you, but just because it suits you doesn’t make it true.

One of the things that’s annoying about the USA is the idea that you need so much living space. I like living in city centres among all the action, but it’s so expensive in most desirable cities. In Lyon, I had a 400 sq. ft. place that I felt like was plenty of space for someone living alone and lots of friends had places even smaller. And obviously in Asia there are loads of micro studios. I don’t see why we couldn’t do that in the USA, but probably it’s way less profitable so it will never work.

You should probably change your avatar, too, because I’m pretty sure AOC’s views are more or less in line with the Nordic model.

It’s pretty funny to be lectured about that not working by someone who’s avatar is a politician pushing for almost exactly that.

Damn that’s intense

That’s unfortunate for the guy, given that’s precisely what he set out to do.

So you genuinely think that AOC, Warren, Bernie, etc etc are dead in the water with zero chance of reform… But that 200M people are going to individually decide to cut their consumption by like 50-70% to save the planet in time?

Let me put that another way. You think 200M people are going to stop unnecessary consumption before 60-70M people cast a ballot for an AOC type candidate?

Pass me whatever you’re smoking, man.

No, I haven’t declared shit. That’s all you projecting. I’ve only asked you one simple Q, which you have so far refused to engage with. Which I’ll repeat like Charlie Brown trying to kick that football…

Anti-Slavery is anti-capitalist, correct ?

as I do homework for everyone on my positions.

I’ve never asked you to do homework on your own positions. WTF are you yapping on about? Two… why would I or anyone else need you to do homework on the same old shit that’s been crammed down our throats, now on 500+ channels lives, our whole entire lives ?

Nah you’re all refusing to address it with evidence or reason and/or refusing to address the evidence or reason I’ve laid out. I have addressed the problems capitalism creates and how I see them being fixed in the Nordic model. You were arguing against the Nordic model while admitting you didn’t even know what it was!!!

I mean how the fuck can you be this active here and not know what it is AND argue against it???

Ggoreo is the only one who presented any real arguments, and even then he did so by dumping like 13,000 words of content on me. But he excerpted some stuff and I responded to that and will read more later.

I’ve answered the question two times. You don’t like my answer, but you’ve declined to deconstruct it so you’re just pretending I haven’t answered it. I haven’t answered it the way you like, but it’s been addressed.

So your position is that the end of humanity in the near future is a certainty? Or are people going to come to their senses and stop consuming?

If you think like 70% of the population is going to just stop consuming I don’t know why you think 20% of the population isn’t going to cast a vote.

How do you figure? Are you going to claim absentee ownership of the means of production coupled with profit extraction is not capitalism?

it does not mean that all systems in which the workers do not control the means are slavery.

Nobody has said this but you. SMH.

All slavery is capitalism, but all capitalism is not slavery. Thus being anti-slavery does not make one anti-capitalism. It makes you anti that part of it.

Capitalists don’t have a natural pull towards integration, wtf that even means.

And even if you don’t mean it this way, every racist’s first go to example against the idea of white privilege is “What about the NBA?”

I was literally thinking about Branch Rickey, but you do you.

I have nothing of substance to add to the discussion so I’ll give a personal anecdote. The issue of the historical interconnectedness between capitalism and racism has been discussed and debated for a very long time. When I was in graduate school I took a course in economic development which covered this (the course was taught by the father of someone this forum is familiar with). For what it’s worth I wrote a term paper on the prevalence of pre-industrial revolution societies reliance on slaves and/or forced labor.
