The only way I can get myself to go along with “this is fine” is by ignoring that we only got this outcome thanks to the Taliban. We didn’t control the situation. We got lucky.
If the Taliban had chosen to, they could have come after the embassies. They could have attacked the airport. We’d have had to fight our way in and back out to get a small number of people out. A lot more people would have died. This outcome wasn’t our choice, it was the Taliban’s.
There are thousands of American and other foreign citizens who may not make it to the airport. The number of Afghans on a Taliban list has to be a big multiple of the foreigners. From reports, the Taliban isn’t making it easy to get to Kabul, much less the airport. The evacuation will get high profile people out, but a lot of others are going to be left behind. I don’t know what happens to them then but they’re sure as hell right to be afraid. Under the circumstances, this is the best we can do now. But it’s not fine.

This is pretty lol, but actually, my 11th grade English and History teachers were both self-described feminists and all-in on a war with Afghanistan way before it was cool (late 90s) because of the treatment of women there. I don’t think there are enough of these people to actually be described as a constituency, but I’ve met a couple of the few who exist.
That’s not actually her overarching thesis. You should read more than the headline before dismissing her.
