Dan Spartan still posts here, and I didn’t have to look that up. I pay attention to who is posting, in the threads I read anyway.
Then you should have issue with the banlusters who have blocked you from being able to talk to them.
Well, micro isn’t the King of the Captains who tells people what to do, he’s just outspoken and articulate and has become one of the more visible ones here because he’s willing to engage with you all more than others. So yea, it happens pretty often that someone or multiple someones gives a nudge or sends a message to back someone down, but also people are still individuals.
People have trying to get ikes to stop being an asshole for years afaict, but I guess he gets a pass from you all.
Does anyone deny that CN is an asshole or try to whitewash his actions? He’s likely the most attacked poster here.
This is like the UK clique thing where people alienated people like Swanky, who is from the UK, but never had anything to do with the fighting.
There are a several people on nmnm who post here and aren’t involved in the fighting at all.
Ok man I didn’t have a better term to describe the group of people that we all know are being referred to. It’s not some backhanded insult.
As far as this goes, I’m not the boss of anyone. 6ix isn’t going to stop calling people smooth brained because I ask. You apparently at least sometimes enjoy talking to him regardless. Other people on this site blocked you from being able to do that.
Fair enough in theory, but it’s a fact that “UK clique” as well as “captains” alienated people who had no involvement.
Just offering solutions. You clearly have no problem calling people out for being rude in other situations. But you don’t have to do anything. And people have a right to be pissed off by the way he posts.
I don’t think it would be helpful. 6ix would just call me smooth brained.
Yes. That’s not what happened.
Right, it’s always a fun game with you as to what is an deeply alienating insult versus what is no big deal and an example of people being thin-skinned.
And he shouldn’t be banned. The only person I know on this site who called for his permaban is Trolly.
I’m not saying anyone should have been offended and I’m sorry when people get offended and leave, but you shouldn’t be oblivious to how you are alienating people without intending to do so. You should thank me for that post. Clovis probably would have.
And yet he’s still here while others far less toxic than him were banned and run off. And you’re right, he probably is (now) the most attacked poster here, so I’ll stop invoking his name. I can give other examples of posters who were also more toxic or did things far worse than those that are being discussed here as trolls and instigators, which goes back to some of the events that were mentioned in the history of the fracturing of this community.
And I feel like we’re now in a back and forth of “oh yea? Well so and so did such and such,” which I regret because it loses the broader picture, that biased and unfair moderation resulted in a lack of respect for individuals and the community as a whole.
The problem with this whole history rehash is both sides want to resolve via some kind of accounting of blame which is absolutely guaranteed to fail.
the only possible resolution is an understanding all sides fucked up and acted poorly.
when a community fractures it is almost never the fault of one side. This really is a both sides thing
the problem is nobody will ever agree to any reconciliation unless their side is first declared victorious.
It’s a lot like climate change and the coming AI apocalypse and the MAGA descent into darkness in that there’s no fixing it.
Rehash if you’re entertained. Don’t if you’re not.
At some level this is an academic discussion on power and moderation in a community like this rather than an actual attempt at reconciliation, which I do not think is particularly likely at this point given the history.
We should know by now that “both sides contributed equally” is rarely an accurate understanding of events.
For the record, I do think the demands for apologies are exactly what you mention–an opportunity to display power and feel victorious–which is why I think it’s an insulting suggestion.
I’ll note I never said “equally”. ![]()
I agree with this. It’s impossible to win a “who started it” debate whether it’s Israel/Palestine or Unstuck Politics. Any resolution has to involve a clearing of the slate and a set of rules going forward.
