Interesting how you forgot Yul’s post that I was replying to when this all started.
You also forgot the part where I said I should be banned too.

Not sure how Yuv’s post justifies you calling people anti-vaxxers. Maybe I’m missing something, here it is for reference:
You said that you should be banned for saying fuck you the other day. You still currently believe that you can call people anti vaxxers and anti-reality. That’s what we are disagreeing about.
anti vaxxers are morons. This is widely believed. Calling someone an anti-vaxxer could be a very tricky way of calling them a moron indirectly.
I don’t think that’s what is happening here, but intent matters.
I didn’t mean it as moron. I meant it as someone who denies realty.
I understand, but I feel like we shouldn’t just take words at face value, that’s all I’m saying. The intent is what is important, in my opinion
IIRC somebody yesterday said they were planning to summarize/synthesize where we stand wrt mod selection, voting, terms, etc. Since I don’t see that, here is my attempt. When the time comes I hope we can create an “official” thread wherein voting on these issues will take place.
Voting for Mods
Poll #1: Public vs private (poll will be open for 7 days in either case)
Poll #2: Margin required
Service of Mods
Poll #3: Length of Term (applies to current and future mods going forward)
Poll #4: Number of Terms allowed (if terms are finite in length)
Poll #5: Terms can be Consecutive (if more than one finite term is allowed)
Clearly the above does not capture every nuance of our discussions. For example, it does not allow for a voter to express “interdependent” preferences across the different polls. But I think we have to proceed with something (somewhat) simple and practical.
Let’s do it.
The gatekeeping thing about how to do polls seems to be going somewhere. economist (the poster) just made a thread summarizing it. Anyone thinking of starting something new here should at least look at what’s happening there.
Don’t you think it would help if it was all focussed in one thread?
It would be better if it were focused, but where and by who? Consolidating this all isn’t going to be easy. I’m not up for it really, but someone who wants it consolidated should probably be PMing all the people who are actively trying this to try to get them all to come together in one thread with something coherent.
Why cant you make a new thread and close the rest for a couple days?
I support banner announcements for binding rule and moderator votes. I oppose them for RFCs, and certainly for each poll within an RFC. A lot of people here don’t care about all the minutiae and don’t want to be bothered.
The “Gatekeeping/RFC” thread was (1) started by Wookie and (2) applies to ALL rules and rule-making.
I think the mod voting stuff can and should be productively carved out (and does not require additional RFC).
Maybe we should stop using analogies and just say what we mean - analogies just add an extra layer that can be misunderstood/interpreted as has been clearly demonstrated in this case.
Yeah, if people think mod election should be distinct from rules elections, I’d like to get that hashed out at the same time in the same place, because if not, we’re likely to apply the same standards to rules as to mod elections.
@MrWookie, do you agree with this post by whosnext? Anyone else?
(I’m not asking because I think this has to be certified specifically by wookie, I am just not following the gatekeeping thread and don’t want to make things more confusing)
Also, I’m willing to start a new poll on mod terms/elections/rules, but don’t want to jump the gun on that either. It’s HARD to write polls. How many failures do we have to see to know that? There needs to be some pre-poll discussion as well as coordinated GOTV.

We can’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good. We also can’t get to a rule if we don’t start. Let’s start in one focussed place.
Ok. I suggest that we make a little committee and I will be on it, probably clovis should be, maybe goofy and/or skydiver and/or jman, maybe someone who has had nothing at all to do with this and we PM with each other about language for the poll. And I suggest that we not hurry. Why hurry?
Also, clovis is requesting a short ban for reasons I’ll explain in the log of moderator actions. I’m hoping he’ll respond to this post and then that will start.
Happy to join happy or abstain. Whatever the community thinks. Someone like Jal or Uk or mystery should be on it too. Maybe all.
