This comment is not in relation to any post or poster specifically, but … this place is getting worse. I don’t spend much time posting but honestly it gets harder and harder to spend that time. The level of discourse is deteriorating.
On NYE I got into a terrible argument with someone I’d been seeing. I asked them to stop making jokes that made me uncomfortable and it turned into a huge thing. Like, terrible.
I tell this because we revisited and I was really interested in their response. They said that they are so identified with their words, how they express themselves, that setting any sort of boundary on their speech was perceived as someone asking them to change themselves. And they lash out violently, when they feel that.
It was an eye opening conversation, but of course doesn’t change the fact that I have no intention of spending any more time with them.
Incredible restraint on your part not to interrupt this with the jerk-off motion, I must say.
Notice no one has cared about moderation the last little bit. Again I suggest that infighting happens when we’re bored and if anything it keeps people here and posting as opposed to drifting off. Not that it’s a good thing. It’s not. But I don’t think it’s the biggest threat to the forum. And it’s probably going to heat up after Trump is gone.
