About Moderation (old original thread)

It’s also crazy that there are different sentences for simple assault versus first degree murder.

This idea that the mods have to deal with all the bullshit and also act in everyone’s preferred manner without getting paid is asinine. Later.

If there were a centrist counter coup resulting in its own sub forum, I thought of the best name ever for it. “The Wine Cave”, it’s probably worth doing just for that. Although “The Whine Cave” (for either sub) would be A+ trolling too.

Can we buy modding hours on fivrr or something so members can be members and not be both members and whipping persons?

This thread has some how gotten worse. You all are seriously hopeless.

This is suppose to be a subset of humans that are slightly better thinkers than the mean.

If it’s not dishonesty it’s stupidity. I guess that’s better than dishonesty?

I guess it could be ignorance. But ignorance mixed with bluster is just trumpism. If you are ignorant and still spouting off bullshit you are terrible.

I feel horrible for all of you.

Maybe try calling everyone an idiot, see if that helps.

Wat.

All I’m saying is that we should be able to expect that people in power here will safeguard our information/privacy. I think you’re all justified in being pissed about the leaked PMs - I’m just bummed out that this forum has bifurcated so strongly into sides-taking. Privacy standards seem like something we should all be on the same page about.

Sorry your PMs got leaked. Genuinely. You all deserve privacy.

This is not true, especially as it applies to me. I would’ve thought I was pretty clear from the first reply to you:

“Being nice” means having the respect for you and myself to reply right now and, ironically, not just chalking your posts up to the ravings of a crazy and/or dumb person. It doesn’t mean just going along with whatever you say.

We can easily hash this out. It just might take longer considering the 4hr throttle. At this point all but the most obtuse can see this is a feature, not a bug, right?

I’ve got you covered.

Sounds good.

Sounds good.

One party points out that Jmkn spied on published users’ PMs. A second party says, ok, but what about Chads doing an unprompted thing concerning a PM. You’re saying it’s actually the first party doing the whataboutism.

I dunno, 2 to 1 I guess?

p.s.

Yadi is Thin-Slicing.

The only reason you all don’t find this interesting and absolutely fascinating is because you’re in an unfortunate and uncomfortable position of being under the microscope when you’re objectively ‘wrong’ in a few senses of the word. And I didn’t run the experiment; we all just wandered in.

Say, for example, we all just wandered in to a Milgram Experiment, and I was one who electrocuted a dude to coma or death. I’d really really not want anybody to think about that too carefully and maybe deride people for daring to find it interesting. I’d probably say things like, “Milgram kind of told on himself when he said he was fascinated by seeing if people will just electrocute dudes to death because they were told. That explains a lot when you realize Milgrams are addicted to and drawn together by their love for seeing if a person will just electrocute a dude to death because they were told.” I’d add that it’s not even real, there aren’t even any serious stakes

and I didn’t even really electrocute a dude to death, I mean lol who cares.

I mean, what’s the rationale for wanting to argue with or yell at or ban a deplorable type if they started posting here and sharing some deplorable views? It’s just a small forum, who cares! What does it even matter, if some random fuck says some random shit, when only like 150 people are even reading this? Is it because it’s a microcosm for accepting and normalizing that behavior in the larger world? Hot damn you don’t say.

Refresher:

lol Milgram what a loser trying to stir up shit and cause drama

The idea that the mods have to deal with anything when resignation is always on the table is the asinine thing.

It’s even worse than that because Jmakin has been almost universally called out for what he did by both “sides”. The only debate seems to be what level of punishment he deserves.

I’ve stopped paying much attention to all this because a few on both sides are just being horrific. Sadly, you are one of them. Lol to complaining about lumping everyone into one group and guilt by association. You are the main voice of the captains crap.

You need to stop. Both you and 6ix need to stfu.

And yes this is me being all neutral again, except I am very much not neutral that you and 6ix have made all this way worse from the start.

The only fun part of this thread is the hilariously overblown use of the word “hacking.”

I’m on team “this was a gross abuse of trust and UP should act in the strongest possible way” but

It wasn’t illegal hacking - he had admin permissions.

maybe - because for you to be able to do that would require you to break various computer misuse laws.

This is an example of the hyperbole that has never helped the discourse here - let’s just stick to the facts - they are damning enough.

The Chads thing isn’t even remotely similar - lol.

Excuse me, SIR, I must urgently correct you: jmakin in NO WAY “hacked” the PM! A total mischaracterization, bordering on character assassination! He simply gained unauthorized access to the PM thread using his admin privileges. A very important distinction, I’m sure, for some.

It’s extremely relevant. It’s the most relevant.

And the analogy is fine except for the part about baking complaints. Anything about sourdough. So, just the part where he comes back and says, wow, you all are thoroughly gross and ridiculous. That part is solid.

Although, the last interaction I had with Dvaut was telling him that he should just ask me what happened in Pv7, and what Well Named’s political stances and beliefs are, instead of just conjuring them up with barely having read either. So he might be the hero you guys deserve.

The start was the admin-PM-dump. That’s the start.

I have been nothing but kind and patient and thoughtful. And humble.

But seriously, I agree, doing that did make it worse. It is worse for the wicked coming upon a goodly and righteous man.

But super seriously this time… I’m not sure what you want? What’s the “this” and where’s the “start”? My first posts about any of “this” are barely over a week ago. I’m sorry my posts are so goddamn memorable but I spent a year being the change I wanted to see and it seems to have horribly backfired.

Go to post 4311 itt and scroll down.

Do new recruits start as Captains? Or do they have to work their way up from Private?

My opinion doesn’t mean much since I don’t post here often.

But from what I have seen through this episode, Wookie is the stable hand through all this.

A lot of the other moderators have been unable to carry on the work of moderation that is basically a thankless job.

This Wookie character seems to be a glutton for punishment and removing him because of “polarization” is a mistake. Name me a moderator that doesn’t end up being eventually “unfit” for having too much of a heavy hand or “unfit” because the moderator is letting trolls populate the boards without a care.

Apply too much moderation = bad
Apply too little moderation = bad
Explain detailed reasons for ban = people disagree
Having not enough detailed reasons for ban = people disagree

Sounds like a good argument for rotating mods!
