This is a victim-blaming mischaracterization. I don’t know anyone who is truly fired up about being called names; we just prefer to establish and participate in a community where verbal aggression isn’t normalized. Seems reasonable.

I’m honestly struggling to understand how some of you can’t acknowledge and accept your biases. I’ve said more than once that I’m heavily biased in favor of Jalfrezi and that is why I’ve opted out of weighing in on this, except to say just that, that if a passionate defense of Jal is needed, bias and all, then send out the bat signal. It’s ok and even natural and good to be biased!

It’s been wild though to see the posts saying that nobody likes him and he’s worthless, besides Team Euro, when it seems like some of you haven’t considered that scorching the earth with a biased take is kinda sorta uncouth.

I mean, real talk, you made that thread about the Community Dying and people have made some good-natured ribbing about you maybe melodramatically overstating the reality, but, nobody said you were a whining little tantrum baby for having the audacity to be passionate about something and expressing said passion, because that would be horrible.

I’ll be upfront and say that my biases here aren’t related to people, but statements, because I think it is so horrible and hypocritical, and above all lacking empathy to an unseemly degree, to try to shame and humiliate somebody for the particular things they care about. In fact, this goes a step further because the thing they (Marty et al but I don’t want to put specific words in anybody’s mouth) care about is the same thing you care about! You think This Community Is At A High Risk Of Dying™ because x and they think this community is at a high risk of y because z.

If it sounds like I’m calling you and Goofy et al out, it’s not personal, I mean, it really is the concept not the person but it only comes from one side. Every time I’ve argued with somebody online I’ve found myself taking the side of and defending the person I’m arguing with if they were shamed in this manner. The most recent was with Jmakin a year ago or so, when I was basically like, “Lol I just horribly insulted Jmakin and he should have the right to reply, not just the right to not be shamed for wanting to reply holy shit.”

Any time the admins over there gave in to the demands of the trolls to not be modded so harshly shit got bad.

I was always the main cheerleader in ATF because I could get away with saying outlandish shit to and about deplorable types, shit that might be unbecoming, uh, coming from MrWookie and other distinguished gentlemen.

I was also at the receiving end of the most abusively ridiculous incident (note: not “harsh” or “terrible” but thoroughly ridiculous) the P forum has ever seen, so Johnny might be inaccurate with the specifics but the broadstrokes are largely correct: there’s always been a lord-of-the-flies bullying the ‘outsider’ aspect that’s kinda gross. It’s just always been veiled because the outsider being bullied were deplorable as shit so it worked out neatly.

(We don’t have to talk about the incident but to get an idea, it resulted in the unprecedented action of MrWookie deleting pages of post on the last day of the month in a monthly LC thread that was about to be closed . Turns out, when the guy who was always front and center in ATF defending the forum and saying it’s not a bunch of bullies looking for a victim, then becomes the victim for an imaginably ridiculous reason, it’s kind of a bad look!)

Victor was not banned for an isolated post saying “I am trolling.” To talk about his ban like I haven’t already described in greater detail why he was actually banned is nonsense. To further your analogy, you cannot say, “I am kicking your dog” while not kicking my dog, and then proceed to actually kick my dog and then get to pretend that you did not kick my dog precisely because you said “I am kicking your dog” while not kicking dog but right before kicking it.

So in the same way that saying “I killed him” does not make a murderer saying " I am trolling" privately obv shouldn’t get a ban when you could not point to any posts that were trolls.

In case anyone else is confused, Victor is asserting that while he sent multiple unsolicited PMs saying he was trolling, his ban for trolling is not valid because a post could not be pointed to… despite the PMs themselves being obvious trolling.

@MrWookie why is the new forum thread closed? There was intense fighting for days and today there was none. Just a reasonable request that the will of the poll be enacted. There is nothing in any rules stating more than the vote is required. The community choose to have the new subforum. It should obviously be opened and until it is the thread should be reopened. There was absolutely no reason to close it.

Just a reasonable request that the will of the poll be enacted. There is nothing in any rules stating more than the vote is required.

Can’t quote from locked thread, but this is wrong. There was discussion 3 days ago about whether or not the poll even belonged in the OP but consensus was that it was fine but not binding. We are at the discussion-and-consensus-building phase of the process, not the final vote phase.

It’s fine, even a best practice, to have a straw poll in the OP, and more later, so everyone can assess community sentiment. Later, there can be a final vote about what if anything goes up to the broader community for a final vote based on what is synthesized here.

Why use an RFC when you can just angle for a whole new forum with entirely new rules when an RFC and community vote doesn’t go your way?
