The only reason I’ve even noticed the golf thread was because of the animosity between Ikes and Jmakin spilling out all over the forum. But maybe you have me on all the sexism all over this thread.
I’ll forever be a minority on thinking that discussions about moderation and forum policy isn’t some stain to be avoided. It’s one of the most interesting things to talk about here. There are legitimate real-world implications to be gleaned, and I know I’m not the only one who believes that with all the comments about cops and fascism and “typical libs” surrounding this topic.

I absolutely think people’s opinions on how to run the forum are related to bigger things - despite how they seemingly don’t always align with someone’s thoughts on politics at large.
And, when someone says, “it’s ok for this to be a dictatorship because the stakes are so low” I absolutely do not trust that they wouldn’t feel the same about broader policies when they feel something directly at stake and not just distant abstract things almost entirely out of our control like who you support in national elections.

Like, would it surprise you if one of the biggest banlusters around is a golfer who call the cops on his neighbors when they have children’s birthday parties? It wouldn’t surprise me.

That’s one way of framing what happened. Another would be that I called the police on neighbors having a party who drunkenly threatened my wife and put music in my one year olds room at >90 dB.
But hey, totally normal behavior to bring up stuff roughly three years ago posted only on SPE. I would suggest that you have someone from your real life, not forum life, read your posts and gauge their reaction. I’m guessing they’d be horrified

And you know what? That situation is applicable here. Those neighbors were massive fucking assholes, repeatedly. They threatened my wife. They were massive assholes to her before I ever got involved. Instead of allowing them to shit all over us, we told them no and set appropriate boundaries. When they violated those boundaries, we enforced those boundaries.
The result has been a peaceful neighborhood for the past three plus years. One where our kids all play together at the park regularly.

Btw, that’s generally a horrible thread too, not as bad a golf of course, but bad. Not surprising that people who get bent out of shape by a change in a thread title have a lot to say in that thread. But, you know, to each their own and I can just not read it.
