Abolishing the Police

One of the fat, hateful retired NYPD I follow (not the anti-vaxxer) just posted this within a long screed:

“Deblasio… wants us to take public transportation. Well I won’t let my kids take the subway (and they are in their 20’s )bc it’s not safe.”

She tried to make a three-point turn to get away from the tense scene when officers smashed out her windows with their batons, according to her attorneys.

Young was handcuffed and separated from her teenage nephew and 2-year-old son for several hours

The Fraternal Order of Police, the nation’s largest police labor union, posted a Facebook picture two days later showing Young’s toddler in the arms of a Philadelphia police officer just after the incident.

“This child was lost during the violent riots in Philadelphia, wandering around barefoot in an area that was experiencing complete lawlessness,” the union said on Facebook. “The only thing this Philadelphia Police Officer cared about in that moment was protecting this child.”

It’s kind of refreshing when the police admit their own uselessness:

sad story:

@cactus, any opinions on this?

I mean, he was stealing and/or damaging property. Per @Cactus earlier comments, summary execution was appropriate.

Police Chief just resigned. Mayor needs to go next. Fuckers should be in jail.

Man, what a bunch of idiots. They were basically finding a legal way to steal money from people passing through the town. All they had to do was not ticket residents, pad the town coffers, give everyone nice things and bump their own salaries and they were on easy street.

Who was gonna stop them? The local voters they gave shit too?

But instead they bought a “tank” and SWAT gear and tinted out SUVs lollll

Still a decent chance they keep the racket going. I expect to see waaaaay more of this the next decade or two. This is where we’re headed.

Toxic masculinity is a hell of a drug. What starts as a money making endeavor evolves into a Tough Guy mentality and they need the military gear and “badass” look to support their fragile self images.

The LA Sheriff’s Department is cartoonishly horrible.

A very good friend of mine became a firefighter years ago. He has a phd and is very progressive. He has also become the departments mental health representative. He is constantly telling me about the pranks they play on each other including a constant game of trying to expose themselves to each other.

It’s so out of character for him I have asked him what is going on. He said they spend so much time in extremely high stress situations, like cleaning up dead kids in car accidents, that they have to have a way to blow off steam. This leads these adults to spend a lot of time on juvenile things like mooning and showing their junk.

Not sure if that makes any sense but it sort of does for me. I couldn’t imagine his job and wouldn’t do it for any amount of money. I can see it causing someone to behave in ways they might not under normal stress levels.

https://www.dailyherald.com/news/20220608/aurora-pride-parade-permit-revoked-organizers-say

The organizers of a suburban Chicago Pride parade asked off duty cops participating in the parade not to wear their uniforms. The police LGBTQ organization withdrew. Obviously.

Today, the city revoked the permit for the whole parade. They said they couldn’t find enough officers willing to work overtime to provide adequate security.

I happen to believe that excuse is facially accurate, but the Mayor of this town is a centrist Republican running for Governor. He hasn’t held a press conference bragging about cancelling the parade, yet.

This is truly insane. Maybe I was naive but I honestly had no idea cops in the US have literally no duty to do anything. Literally anything. There are no rules saying they have to protect anyone or enforce any laws. It’s all pure discretion.

Just fucked behind comprehension.

The entire police industry is one huge grift.

They’re a well organized “protection” racket. Air quotes definitely needed.

I had to relisten to the Castle Rock v. Gonzales episode of 5-4 three times, because it couldn’t possibly be right that the police don’t have an actual obligation to, you know, ENFORCE THE LAW.

That one is still too weird for me. Even Souter voted with Scalia, right?
