I mean the people. I should have said “Texans suck”.
As far as the place? Whatever. Obviously California is more beautiful and diverse geographically and has better climate generally, but mostly because CA is just about incomparable in that regard.
And, obviously not everyone.
The difference is stark though and it’s that Texas (and other places) are Trumpy enough that Trumpy loudmouths just spout off to everyone with the presumption that people will agree with them and in LA (much less the Bay Area) the presumption is you can say Trump is an idiot (which is obviously true) and people will agree with you.

CA has 40 million people.
And California doesn’t give a shit about Texas generally. It’s like the “rivalry” between Northern and Southern California where Northern CA sorta resents Southern CA and Southern CA doesn’t know there’s a rivalry outside of baseball.
Post Trump though, all the red states are shitholes. Texas isn’t special in that regard. A divorce between states would be wonderful.
How are the Lakers doing?
No idea. I don’t generally follow sports.
This is the hottest take ever posted on this forum lol. Maybe they’re pretty much the same place in comparison to Afghanistan or something.
What are some reasons to visit texas besides bbq?
To see the big and bright stars at night.
But you have to go deep in the heart of Texas.
Also, as a visitor I highly recommend picking some Bluebonnets as souvenirs and running over an Armadillo when you see one.

I thought about it and there wasn’t much that could take me to Texas. I hear they have good poker games but I haven’t played in a long ass time. There are also major sporting events happening regularly which could be interesting. A connection through Houston or Dallas is pretty common though. I feel like for most people though, the attractor is family. Or if your values include guns, big trucks, oil, there are probably some attractors.
Most of Texas’ attractions can found in better versions in different locations imo.

It’s different if you grew up there. I’m hardly a stereotypical Texan, but I actually have enjoyed going back over the last decade.

That’s fair. I have some nostalgia for home when I have visited in recent years, but it bite sized chunks. I kind of lump that in with family in my head too since they are often coupled.
I was mostly responding to XLB’s question, not realizing the conversation went deeper last month.

Buttigieg is setting himself up nicely for the primary, imo. Not sure why his equity is so low on Polymarket. He has a lane as the experienced, reasonable, kinda moderate guy (like it or not), and he’s going to be a lot of people’s second choice. And more importantly, the competition is filled with weirdos like Newsom and Shapiro, and divisive figures like Harris and AOC. I could see Buttigieg winning sort of by default, similar to Biden, if nobody else stands out enough.
I still think Newsom hits the correct tenor for the moment, but he seems like the type of candidate who fizzles out when voters learn more about his scandals and personal history.
AOC is obviously the wildcard with the real juice. But I dunno if primary voters are ready for her. We’ll see. Skeptical the others (Kelly, Whitmer, etc) can create enough of a movement. Too bland. Maybe Ossoff. I think Stewart could create a real movement, but I’m doubtful he’ll run.

Me either. She’s in a funny spot. Not sure what I’d do in her shoes.
She could go the more traditional route and run for Senate or whatever. Bide her time and continue as a leader of the progressive movement while things potentially keep moving in that direction.
Or she could just go for it now since the rules don’t seem to matter anymore, and since the competition is weak. Even if you lose, maybe you get the VP slot (like Harris) or a cabinet position (like Buttigieg) to boost your credentials.
I think she thinks presidential aspirations are weird and that you can do far more elsewhere. I don’t see her running for Senate until she’s in her 40s if she even does. It would just really lock her in.
