2026 Winter Olympics Milano Cortina

Yeah, I figured the single feed would make it difficult to telestrate because you have no knowledge of the cuts.

I still think it’s worth giving it a shot in curling. I think it would add a lot tot he broadcast to draw a quick line or circle as to what the players are thinking or trying to do. And there’s enough predictability in the camera shots that you could probably do it well.

Not sure any other sport in the winter games woukd really benefit from it.

I agree it would lend a lot to the analysis. It just may be too hard technically if they’re not on site or don’t have control over the cameras.

Keep in mind commentators don’t have control over cameras either in football but they do this analysis over replays and not live. I don’t think there are any replays during these matches complicating it further. Being able to draw on the screen before a shot would be good too but there must be a limitation for that too. I’m going to look up how that works to see if it’s a special device that’s considered a camera to the director.

Yeah that’s mostly what I’m thinking. Theres the overhead shot of the house for 5-6 seconds before each stone. I’d love if the commentator could just show visually what he/she expects to happen or what s/he’d do.

Based on this from Wikipedia, it needs two devices and then an output:

The user typically draws with a finger, stylus or pen on a touchscreen or graphics tablet. From the touchscreen or the tablet, the drawing signal is communicated to the telestrator, which overlays the video image with the drawing and outputs the combined signal for broadcast or display.[1]

To do this remotely might be easier than doing it there without control of the cameras. Guessing signal flow, it would involve feeding the live feed into the Telestrator drawing device, making it not live, sending it to the Telestrator device, on maybe a 2 second delay, and then it goes on the delayed output (TV) while drawing, and then will need to be switched back to the live feed once the demonstration is over. That’s a decent amount of work for the TD to not f up, but in a slow paced game like curling it still may be able to work. People screw up a lot in live broadcasts so unless it’s easy technically they almost always won’t do it.

Peacock has a multiview option

I was wondering why I couldn’t find the Canada Finland Women’s hockey game anywhere

The decision to postpone the game was announced shortly after Finland completed its early afternoon practice with just eight skaters and two goalies. The remaining 13 players were either in quarantine or isolation due to a norovirus that began affecting the team on Tuesday night.

The postponement provides Finland two extra days to rest before playing the U.S. on Saturday. Had their game against Canada not been postponed, Finnish officials were considering the possibility of a forfeiture.

I still can’t believe that after two Olympics of constant choking, SHUSTAH clutched out a freaking gold medal

I just downloaded the Peacock App and bought the basic plan which implied I could watch the Olympics. I couldn’t and then had to buy the premium plan. I then couldn’t watch because I’m outside of the US. I then turned on my VPN to the US and it said I can’t watch because they’ve detected I’m on a VPN

lol. I was about to post this Reddit thread about penisgate.

Ahh, the shred of truth to base an entire storyline for Cool runnings 2 has appeared.

Should I keep the politics out of this thread?

The opening ceremony is confusing me. Some people are outside, some people are inside? They are splitting up the athletes into different groups walking through different glowing rings? wtf.

Edit: ok I think I figured it out. The mountain places are like hundreds of miles away so they split teams up by where they are competing. Sucks to be the random 2 skiers in the delegation that have to walk through the snow and don’t even get a flag, just a flimsy little sign to hold up lol.
