CBC has figured out the live sports streaming game. Stream freezes every 30 seconds and they run a fresh set of ads every time you refresh
Quad view is hard! My eyes keep darting around to all matches, forgetting that the commentator is a mismatch to 3 of 4 matches.
Yah, multi-view not really ideal for curling b/c you need to see how the end is developing to understand what’s going on.
Plus the men have to clean the playing field?
I hadn’t realized until now that mixed doubles curling wasn’t just a regular team of four with two men and two women. Curling experts (i.e. wichita but I don’t want to tag you because that’s obnoxious), is there also men’s doubles and women’s doubles or are the unigender teams always four curlers?
I wish they’d fold some of the other rando indoor shit (basketball, volleyball etc.) into the winter games to even things out more. Like I can always find something during the summer games I find interesting, but I just can’t get into the snow/ice sports at all.
There are some doubles events that are open so you can play in whatever configuration you want but not as many as mixed. On the highest end competitive level unisex doubles does not exist that I am aware of. For the 4s you have just about every combo imaginable. Men’s, womens, mixed 4s(2 men 2 women) and open.
At my level of curling which is very much in the amateur range almost all events are open. The exception is when I go to regional playdowns to try and qualify for nationals. Those are mens/womens/mixed 4s so a set configuration.
While it may not seem obvious that there is a big divide in men’s and women’s ability in curling there actually is a large difference both in sweeping ability and in the ability to deliver stones at the highest speeds accurately. That’s mostly only true at the higher levels of competition.
Also if you have not tried curling there is likely a club near you. And during the Olympics they do tons of learn to curl and beginner friendly events. It’s a great sport with mostly great people. Hardly any Trumpers. And its a good mix of exercise and strategy.
TMZ reported they received a ransom note for her mother. Has anything else come out?
Feels like there has to be a HUGE barrier to entry with curling, where like you need to be able to have some chance of hitting what you are aiming for, or else the strategic element doesn’t even really exist. Could be wrong tho obviously.
Their chances of getting away with this are zero even with Trump’s FBI and Director Kash.
I’ve seen the reports of a ransom note, but also heard earlier today that the sheriff has not confirmed if one exists. Also read something yesterday or this morning that Savannah Guthrie’s brother in law was being looked at with suspicious, but also heard after that there there are no suspects or persons of interest. Reporting seems to be all over the place on this story.
I think you would be surprised in the sense that most people hit that first plateau pretty fast. The point you can make a few shots and a decent chunk of your misses become less bad to the point they are usable. I’ve seen people within a year of curling be pretty damn competent. Like most things it’s just how much you want to work at it. Then again I’m 8 years in and am pretty solidly in the 60%-65% range using the 0-4 grading scale they use for the olympics. I have no shot to ever hit the 85-90 percent the top curlers are at. So to get anywhere near as good as the people you see on tv that’s pretty tough.
I would assume it must be like a harder version of bowling where learning to be consistent is the hardest part.
Mastering your slide is really the #1 key. That’s how you are accurate with line and speed. That’s pretty hard and by far the thing most people struggle with.
Snowboard and ski cross and speed skating are mega elite. I like the stuff where everyone is actually competing against each other instead of just times. Hockey has NHLers back so should be fun. But yah, the list of sports is just so light. Feels like Summer Olympics has 4x as many sports. And then like millions of variations for swimming/track.
Winter has a good # of events for 2 weeks though. I wish the Summer Olympics could somehow be a month and a half b/c I feel like I’m missing so much stuff.
If you try to draw to the button on an empty sheet, how close do people at your level get on average.
I’d probably average the 8 foot somewhere. So lets say 3-4 feet from the pin or so.
What’s the best way to watch, just sign up for Peacock for a month?
I would usually watch on nbcolympics.com. This was the place to get everything for years before most of it became available on Peacock. During the last summer Olympics, I seem to remember it being a problem but I can’t remember why, so I moved to Peacock for it. I just checked the nbcolympics.com site, and it looks like it’s set up the same way as it used to be though I’m not going to try to play anything live to see and I’ll look into what credentials it asks for tomorrow. Usually your cable provider (if you have something like YouTube TV it probably has something for that too) is what gets you in.
I think there are many streams that are available on there with no commentators, live, and if I remember correctly, very few if any commercials (you might watch a dead feed for a long time but no commercials). Again, I don’t know what it’s going to look like or if I’ll end up on Peacock again, but I’ll find out early tomorrow morning. If you don’t have a provider you can link to nbcolympics.com for free, Peacock is probably how you should do it. They’ll have everything and easy to access replays within hours of events completing.
