i’m 99% sure this is just a joke but i do think there should be some kind of military response from michigan. some kind of like, national guard jet flyby, buzz the tower something like that. we can’t let wisconsin punk us. cause next thing you know ohio will start encroaching
I’ve seen 3 different videos of people retrieving body parts from the Nepal flood (thanks Facebook). So the answer for the actual cause of death for a lot of those people could be that they got ripped to pieces before they could drown. Hopefully they got knocked out before that happened.
Immunotherapies such as CAR T-cell therapy are used primarily to treat cancer. In the future, these patient-specific therapies, manufactured from patients’ own immune cells, could also help cure autoimmune diseases. Six patients with particularly severe rheumatoid arthritis have now received this treatment at Charité—Universitätsmedizin Berlin. In the journal Nature Medicine , the researchers report the results from the world’s first clinical trial of its kind: Disease activity decreased substantially in all participants. By the end of the observation period, three of the patients no longer required any medication for rheumatoid arthritis.
I saw a video of some people on a balcony on a blue 3-story house that looked like it was about to get swept away at any second. And then I saw a pic of them after it passed. The house survived and they made it. You can see a diagonal mud line that comes a few feet from their balcony. Have to feel like the luckiest people on earth right now.
It’s literally the treatment for cancer you get when you’re on the edge of death. I’m not sure I’d be willing to do it, even though a study says it works for my cancer, and certainly not for something like what they describe.
Your immune system is completely blown out, takes a long time to recover and you can die just from getting the treatment. I’m guessing insurance isn’t too friendly to it either. I think a bone marrow stem cell transplant is upwards of $2 million (very few providers approved and none in Vegas) and I’d be surprised if this isn’t vastly more expensive than that. I’d also be surprised if current effective biologics for rheumatoid arthritis aren’t significantly less expensive over the lifetime of the patient than the therapy which can still unleash a lot of future expensive problems.
I also don’t think there’s enough long term data for how long it works or what the complications are. I could be wrong but I thought this started getting trialed in 2023 or 2024, or maybe that’s when the first real data came in.
I think Sam Neill died not long after his because he didn’t take the immune system threat seriously. You’re like a newborn baby after these types of treatments. I’ve been on no cancer treatment for 14 months and my immune system still isn’t serviceable. I mask door to door in a level 3 surgical mask and haven’t been additionally sick in 27 months since being diagnosed. I wouldn’t dream of being in public without a mask unless my immune system is robust. I could still get got so I dunno if I ever won’t wear a mask. I’m susceptible to Covid and that’s a confirmed multiple myeloma patient killer.
Reading the preview of the white paper I’m not sure why they did the treatment. The risk seems much higher than the reward. The times I’ve read they do high risk stuff for less severe issues is when they’re already doing something risky so they might as well do it for something else at the same time, but the paper doesn’t mention anything else.
Yeah they had rushing water all around them. I think that video is after the peak. The other one is before and you’re just sure their house is going down.
Here’s the original angle I saw of the people in the blue house, where you really get an idea how dire their situation was.
It’s a dumb thing to cling to, but I’m so happy they made it. While searching for this I saw multiple people on roofs or in houses that completely collapsed, which I didn’t want to see. I guess those clips don’t become widespread, so FB is somewhat filtering out the horrible stuff.
For me it’s really more about the power of the water. I don’t want to see death, but I want to understand what such a devastating flood can do, partially in case I get in some flood situation, partially just trying to wrap my head around it.
Almost the same exact mindset for me. The images of the power of water are incredible, but I try and stop the video or look away if I think I’m about to imminently see some get killed by it.
I’ve also thought about what I’d do or what I’d learn. The only things I’ve come up with are: 1) you have no idea how much worse something can get so start protecting yourself asap (instead of taking videos), and 2) don’t just run away from water, rather get as high as you can as quick as you can. But I’m not naive - very little anybody could do in the path of this thing to save themselves.
In some cases, yeah. In others you can see people stop to look at the water when they should just keep running. Also if you’re stuck behind people on a trail up the mountain, and you’re able to go off trail and bushwack, do it.
But also don’t don’t do this:
Although I don’t know how as a father your instinct isn’t to protect the kids. He starts to grab the kid at first, then just says fuck it I’m running.
