Maine Congressional seat was going to be close, but losing Golden probably increases the chances that Rs flip it. Between this seat and the Senate race, Maine is going to be flooded with money next year.
But I thought he was the new Dem model of what to do…

Meh, if you take him at his word (and I’m not saying one needs to), if he really feels like running will (continue to) put his family at risk, then I think it’s understandable. And it’s something we may see more often going forward.

I’m not 100% sure, but it sounds to me that everyone quitting is getting some sort of pension. Sometimes, there are some ways they can game the system during their final years to increase their payouts, so they are probably leaving some money on the table. However, I doubt any are walking away empty handed with only a few years before they’re in the money.
Correct. They are never losing their whole pension, they’ll just get a smaller pension that they would have if they stayed.
