Why can’t they just call a normal run for Bijan? Seems like 90% of the time there’s some gimmick to it which just wastes time.
Without commenting too much on that play, my old man yelling at clouds moment is that they’ve made playing DB too hard. I would like to see 1 of 2 rule changes. Make DPI a 10 yarder instead of a spot foul. No other changes needed, but no more 30+ yard awards on these “could go either way” plays. Or start giving more leeway to defenders, especially on these underthrown jump balls when the DB is in a trailing position and the receiver has to turn and run back through him to make a catch. You want to throw back shoulder that’s fine, but on these jump balls where the DB starts out in a better position, they are getting over penalized for the contact that’s mostly the fault of the QB.
DPI in college is 15-yards and db’s that get beat just can just drag the receiver down. Seems like a huge advantage to the defense this way. Maybe keep the rules as-is and allow replay review would be an improvement.
And yet there isn’t an epidemic of college guys commiting intentional dpi.
We tried the replay thing for a year and it sucked. Coaches were just challenging every incomplete deep ball hoping for pi.
It’s mostly fine now but it is frustrating to see officials essentially award a splash play on some pretty close calls. It also rewards QBs who throw inaccurate passes into traffic. The lions basically never get dpi called on offense because receivers get open and the QB throws it on the money.
This isn’t true imo. Color commentary guys always comment about the heads up play by the db that got burned and mauled the receiver to prevent a score. Epidemic? Cmon bro.
The under throw, defender can’t stop, DPI thing just plain sucks
There might not be a ton of defense tonight.
That’s what I thought but Lions looking good so far.
My son is correct, Teslaa has to go down as soon as he gets that jersey tug.
Lions contesting absolutely everything on defense deep. Might get beat but they’re in position, all you can ask for out of your backups.
oh good god that never gets called on Williams, and that’s obviously a hold on the other side. the fuck
man the defense has been fucking great tonight
Not sure what the rule is exactly but that sure looks like the Lions ball
The lions guy clearly has control first, but the replay guy says he doesn’t?
OK FINISH THEM now
Ehhhhhh I don’t know about that one Jim
Legit surprised they overturned it. I see it, but I feel like there’s a lot of plays where they go to the ground fighting for the ball and they rule it an offensive catch 99/100 times.
the Joe Flacco
This half ending did not spark joy
Not this week…
Oooh that was probably right about forward progress but it could have gone either way
