Did you see Mayor Max?
Bird pron itt
There’s a high profile trial happening in Australia right now for a woman accused of killing 3 people by intentionally feeding them food with death cap mushrooms.
It’s huge news here with basically every major news organisation running daily live blogs of every tiny update.
Do you think she did it on purpose?
Yes, I think pretty much the whole country does, the evidence is pretty damning.

Key Evidence Presented
1. Mobile Phone Data
Telecommunications expert Dr. Matthew Sorell testified that Patterson’s mobile phone connected to towers near locations in Outtrim and Loch, where death cap mushrooms had been previously documented on iNaturalist. These connections occurred months before the fatal lunch, suggesting that Patterson may have visited these sites .ABC+4The Australian+4The Guardian+4
2. Mushroom Sightings
Retired pharmacist Christine McKenzie reported discovering and removing death cap mushrooms in Loch in April 2023. These sightings were geo-tagged and posted online. Another mycologist, Tom May, documented death caps in Outtrim in May 2023. The data indicates Patterson’s phone was stationary in Outtrim during the times these sightings were posted, suggesting potential visits to those sites .news+2The Guardian+2The Australian+2The Australian+1The Guardian+1
3. Meal Preparation and Serving
It was revealed that Patterson used a different coloured plate for herself during the meal, which could indicate an intentional differentiation in the serving of the meal .Coutts Lawyers & Conveyancers+6The Independent+69News+6
4. Medical Testimony
Medical staff who examined Patterson after the incident testified that she reported eating the same meal as the others but did not fall as ill. This raises questions about the intentionality of the poisoning .ABC+5CBS News+5ABC+5
5. Survivor’s Testimony
Ian Wilkinson, the sole survivor, gave evidence stating that Patterson rejected offers from two guests to assist in serving the meal, which could suggest deliberate actions in the preparation and serving process .
Is there any motive?
Seems to be family drama, the victims were the parents of her ex husband who was invited but refused to attend the lunch. He was notably hospitalised and almost died a few years earlier with a mystery gut illness that doctors never figured out, there is some off the record media reporting saying he thinks he was poisoned by her.
I’ve never seen any death caps here, though I have seen a few other Amanita species. We do have a lot of this in the woods here:
I’ve seen this group and it’s crazy frustrating, the people asking often have like near zero information and the people who run the group are kinda insanely fascist
Any sort of online stuff that doles out medical advice has to be crazy strict
I like how my dentist has a $500k (guessing) cutting edge piece of equipment hooked up to a 20-year-old Dell running Windows 95.
Hooray for cancer!
Very sorry to hear about Adams, but at least he lived until ChatGPT was here so I can still get my Dilbert fix
One of those peckers got to get jealous.
I saw that come up on Reddit in a case where a doctor in some other country was trying to identify some poisonous berries. People recommended that Facebook group although someone on Reddit did identify them.
Womp womp. Although I shouldn’t tempt the cancer gods. I had my first colonoscopy today and had 15 polyps.
I dont know anything about mushrooms and only posted in an attempt to add helpful information. That’s a pretty strong accusation. Can you elaborate?
yeah the groups are VERY useful but at least the one I have the most experience with is not very welcoming to outsiders who might actually have expertise. this is (IMO) a bit of a problem because they have a limited number of people who are doing IDs and sometimes there are time-senstive requests. Not saying they should encourage every yahoo to comment but they should be trying to increase their ranks a bit and they’re definitely not.
This dude is usually so full of shit I’m not gonna believe him till they start shoveling dirt on his casket. I’m half expecting him to say next week he’s cured himself by drinking alkaline water or that he’s discovered a miracle drug or some bullshit.
Like wow what a coincidence the master persuader also has terminal prostate cancer, what happens next guys better tune in to his podcast.
