On Directv you could pause one game, hit last channel to watch another game, then pause that and just keep going back and forth like that skipping commercials. That was nirvana.
Subscriptions can be paused separately. That’s how I do it. I have a few on deals right now but then I just watch what I want on those then pick up others to catch up on shows. If you maxed out all streaming no commercials it would start to add up but I used to pay like 150-180 a month for satellite 11 years ago. Not close to that now.
Fucking hell
any time i feel old, i just come to UP and read people having discussions about land lines and the love boat and feel better…
Damn car insurance is expensive over there. I pay under 1K a year
Ours was about $2k a year for me an my wife, but then I started paying for one of the kids…and then a couple fenders were bent…
Now you can’t afford cars anymore due to insurance
My dad dinged up his car in the parking lot. That was his first at fault, and the first ones free. Then he dinged up the rental car he had while the other car was getting repaired , and if he tried to claim that his insurance would have gone up over 1K.
You can build up $40k of insurance in the bank by having no incidents whatsoever across a long period of time. Then get in a $5k accident, it’s uh-oh. Get a speeding ticket, all good will gone. Meanwhile, they massively profit and never lose a dime on a good driver even when something bad happens with him (unless it involves injuries or death).
Watching Brazil vs. Japan, I missed Japan’s goal. No problem, I have a cloud DVR, let’s just rewind. You watch too many movies, son. You can’t just rewind a cloud DVR. Apparently I have liked 3 minutes buffer or something, not enough to see the actual goal. So fucking lame.
World Cup frustrations kicked me over the edge - I hardly ever used the Uverse but tried yesterday and the receiver needed to be rebooted, then the remote wasn’t working, and so I gave up and pirated it. But I put that in its own category of piracy because I definitely had the right to that content if Uverse didn’t suck so bad.
wtf no spoilers! j/k i could never watch sports on a delay
Wait, you’re telling me the people working at Barstool Sports are dumb? No way! I bet a lot of them didn’t even know “dumb” includes the letter b.
I have a much more affordable setup for live TV, but it requires a few pieces and some setup on my own.
I just paid $80 total for a 6 month IPTV subscription with 2 connections ($13.33/month). This is basically a live streaming service that provides me with a URL, user, and password that I can use to view live TV. The service provides 30k channels including live streams from basically every local ABC, NBC, FOX affiliate, to different country streams (UK, Canada, Greece, NZ, etc), tons of live sports (every stupid little one-off NBC Sports Online, Peacock, etc), some 4K channels and it even has every single pay-per-view event included.
I do also have to use another app (TiviMate, UHF, etc) to view the content which I pay a yearly subscription for of ~$12. Think of this as the “frontend” where I input the URL and user/pass to authenticate with the streaming service. Since I have a Sony TV with Google TV, I just install it from the Play Store. From this app, I can view multiple streams (up to my connection limit), record live TV, view my recordings, etc. I have a pretty basic NAS setup that I store the recordings over the network. Depending on your device, it would have some local storage but probably not very much. If you’re watching the recording after the fact, you could even run something like Comskip to remove commercials from the video file. Depending on your devices, you may be able to do it a little differently. It isn’t a huge lift.
Are there more hoops to jump through? Sure.
Is it legal? IANAL, but I did have to get invited to a Discord server to sign up.
Is it the same experience as watching with your old cable DVR? Fuck if I know, I never had that feature on my cable before.
It has been a pretty stable service over the years and the only pain point has been around renewing, or the service’s URL changing and me not knowing because I don’t pay attention to discord.
It is also super easy to make a ticket in Discord with their team if something doesn’t work.
I also have a separate internet bill of course.
This is most definitely not legal. It reminds me of a service a friend of mine told me about. Yours seems geared more toward live TV. Hers had all the premium channels and it was even cheaper than what you’re doing. She didn’t care it was legally dubious because she hated cable prices.
No way, these guys are totally legit. They would never do anything illegal! They have a channel for support requests and I get a response within a few minutes and the issue resolved in <30 minutes. Support is nice too! (Gotta work on my plausible deniability angle)
I don’t really know what cable prices are as I “cut the cord” a long time ago, but I don’t have a lot of interest in giving money to cable companies. Random internet dudes in a private Discord though? :take-my-money:
I’m pretty sure that’s tannerite. Which is in some insane technical loophole, that exempts it from most(maybe all?) explosive regulations because they sell it as 2 separate ingredients and you have to shoot it with a high velocity bullet to start the explosion. I’m pretty sure anybody can buy it.
Hence why you get videos of people almost getting maimed or killed by clueless idiots who got their hands on some.
Just missed the Paraguay goal because I was looking away. Well at least I should be able to rewind a few seconds, right? No, of course not. A series of buffering and 4k failures and I have no buffer on either the 4k or regular channel. Off to twitter to see actual replays.
Cloud DVR rocks!
I have found some of the live streaming sports do allow rewind and some won’t and I agree that not having that is a huge leak.
