I donāt really get why Nate gets so much hate on here. Heās had many bad takes but is still probably batting better than an average pundit.The only reason I care about anything he says is that his election modelling is the best in the biz. In 2016 his closing prediction was something like 70/30 Clinton in the face of everyone else having her a mortal lock.
I feel like picking Walz rather than Shapiro costing Harris the election is something people donāt want to acknowledge could happen. I think Walz was a really good pick but if it comes down to the wire in PA, she could lose because of him. The political downsides of Shapiro were more nebulous, but if Harris loses because she narrowly loses PA, itās very unlikely his downsides would matter enough to change the fact that he likely would have brought home the state. Itās going to suck if that happens, but pretending like this possibility doesnāt exist is not helpful.

Man, itās nuts to me how many people who obviously know a ton about politics think that VP picks matter 1 iota. I guess weāre all bored and killing time til the election so it gives us something to pontificate on, but come on lol.
They matter in a positive sense if theyāre the popular governor of a state. Aside from that they only matter in a negative sense. I would argue that Thomas Eagleton and Sarah Palin mattered, and I hope J.D. Vance will also matter.
Democrats should be utilizing celebs in the Maine/Nebraska swing districts If those people knew that every four years Matt Damon or George Clooney would be showing up at their bowling ally they would be more inclined to vote and vote democrat.
