2024 US Presidential Election (Taylor's Version)

Fwiw, I think that if Trump loses, there will be a heated conservative debate about whether it’s the further empowering of the richest assholes or the racism that is what it means to be a true conservative, and I think racism will win in an even bigger way.

There will be a complete GOP meltdown if Trump loses in November. It would be their fifth straight election losing the popular vote, and there will be a 20 year period where they only served only one term in the White House. Trump will be the first person in our lifetime to lose multiple elections, and will essentially have highjacked the party for 12 years. They did get a few SC justices out of trump which is their only saving grace. It would also be loldems for being the only party that could ever win five straight popular votes and still be drawing dead to ever controlling the SC.

I think it’s just that Putin has had a lot of plastic surgery and it over 70 now.

Im pretty sure on the old site around 2012 2013 it wqs predicted that the gop would become more normal after losing back to back. That didnt turn out like we hoped

Yup, agreed on all counts.

There will also be a ton of “we should have cheated harder” or simply “democracy is bad” takes. But a handful of GOP leaders will conclude MAGA was a folly and position themselves as moderates, probably to their own long term detriment.

I don’t think Trump is an anomaly in terms of the messages he popularized—these were already in the works back in 2010, before he came onto the political stage. But he is a once in a generation talent in delivering this ideology to a certain segment of American society. The MAGA rank and file always end up seeing through the DeSantis/Vance Ivy League dickwards cosplaying aggrieved blue collar America.

To be clear, I don’t think a more moderate party overall is in the cards.

But it will certainly be muddled and chaotic as hell for at least a few years, unable to run on literally anything besides “Dems evil” (which can be a potent message given their messaging acumen). Ultimately, they’ll find a new strategy that is probably some new flavor of horrible none of us can imagine yet.

There are like 10x as many mouth breathing inbred cousin fuckers as apathetic dentists. And there’s so much money in the crazy. They’re never moderating.

Also, LOLOLOLOL HAHAHAHAHAHA

If Trump does the debate it’s because he knows he’s losing

Well he’s refusing the 9/10 ABC debate he had agreed to with Biden and is insisting now on a 9/4 debate on Fox News with a full crowd so that he can turn it into a circus.

I don’t think Harris should treat the Fox News part as a non-starter (Baier is a hack with heavy bias, but he does try to put a veneer of respectability up when he moderates debates), but she should hold the line on no crowds. I’d like to see her accept conditional upon that concession and also conditional upon agreement to a second debate not on Fox.

Any debate with Trump is a losing proposition. There is no scenario where it’s good for her imo.

She shouldn’t even respond to this bullshit. Just show up at the original day/time.

Yeah, she should just keep the originally planned debate and mock him for not showing. Then, when he skips it, she should just appease the network by turning it into a Tonight Show-style deal where she’s interviewed briefly in between live performances from like Lizzo and Billie Eilish.

So many possible threads for this:

The Trump team was at least smart enough to put this at the earlier date, likely knowing that the media would breathlessly cover Harris’s failure to show up for that as her standing down rather than him. The NY Times has already thrown in its two cents by covering Trump’s back-out and counter-proposal this way.

Kamala should challenge him to a debate on Hot Ones next week

Wowowow. Kind of tipping their hand a bit, aren’t they?

I’m not sure they’ll have that choice. They still have to appease their constituents in order to be elected. GOP leaders hated Trump in 2016 too, but as long as he has his base, I’m not sure there’s anything they can do

Btw, I think this is a lesson for leftists

Agree. Much to lose with very little to gain. So being Democrats, of course they’ll agree to it
