Yglesias did a survey of federal policies that could improve housing affordability a few months ago:

Theo Von with the Amish disguise behind Trump.

Dammit sorta got beat to that one.

Have to dock her Twitter points because she admitted she was wrong

The angle is to paint kamala as a ditz who doesn’t even know what race she is. Which is like, the most important thing to know. JD Vance knows what race his woman is. He’s not thrilled to admit it, but he knows

At the very least the Vance is weird attacks got Trump to proclaim that JD is irrelevant. A total nothing. An electoral zero. The attacks should continue.

Some credit is due to GWB for being among the first to recognize Trump was doing weird shit. Laughing green shirt guy from Tucson was also a pioneer.

I don’t really associate GWB with that. Obviously I missed or forgot something. What was it?

He was quoted as saying “well that was some weird shit” at the end of Trump’s inauguration speech. When asked about it later, he said something like, “I don’t remember saying that.” Which basically admits that yeah, that’s what he said.

Yeah I don’t get that either… Also not sure who the laughing green shirt guy from Tucson is or what he did

If this lady was totally, colossally wrong, what about those who were vehemently against Biden stepping aside? Memory holed already I suppose?

You have to be a 0th level mouth breather to have that take on those 2’s impacts

Disagree, and you’re likely thinking about the existing toolbox and policies the government has used in the past. I am talking about something completely new. There’s really few limits.

Fed use funding to influence things which are out of their scope in all sorts of other areas (e.g. drinking age). They could do it with housing construction or zoning laws. They just haven’t done that in the past, but it’s basically norms and lack of political will.

I won’t pretend to know much of anything about US housing laws, but I wonder is something structured like the Canada federal health Act would work. Here, health care delivery is the jurisdiction of the provinces but the federal act is a funding act. The provinces don’t legally have to comply with the federal act in the provision of health care, but if they don’t comply then they don’t get the funding.

If the Dems wanted a signature issue to define this election the way Obama won on Obamacare, then a proposal to launch a federal housing act to make housing more affordable would be a good way to do it. The Rs would absolutely lose their minds but it would turn the election into “do you want affordale housing or not” decision for many critical voters, which is a winning strategy for the Dems. Let’s go Harris Homes Act.

It’s not likely the Federal government could use eminent domain for something like a housing project, even with a sympathetic Supreme Court. It would have to have a public purpose that’s within the Federal government’s authority. It has actually been a while since I looked at federal eminent domain law, but my recollection is that it basically has to be for things like transportation, defense, national parks, things like that. It would be hard to claim a public purpose when the units are going to be meant for exclusive use by private individuals and families.

Where are the cheeseburgers tho?
