2024 US Presidential Election: First Polls Close in 24 Hours

@LFS, maybe I’m confusing you with someone else, but I seem to remember your diet consisting of like 100% giant salads, eggs, and whole grains. I didn’t think a pastrami sando was even in play. If that was you, when did you decide to become less restrictive?

Can’t go by minutes. Nasty traffic can make a short distance 40 min.

You are generally correct about my diet, but under special circumstances I am willing to make exceptions. But I always regret it when I do, which is why I didn’t in this case.

The weight gain was primarily as result of a drastic drop in physical activity, for which I hold the sleep apnea responsible. I still eat really clean.

Trump winning the popular vote and losing the electoral college is apparently possible and would be absolutely phenomenal.

I would love to see the republicans do an EC 180. I always found it amazing (not really lol) how opinions on political procedural things like the EC, senate composition, filibuster, etc. almost always fall on completely partisan lines based on whose side those things tend to benefit most.

I feel this is very unlikely but it would make me so happy that I am going to consider it quite possible

Another one of those stories that everybody forgot because of all the Florida shenanigans in 2000 - leading up to the election there seemed to be a very good chance that Gore might win the electoral college and lose the popular vote. I am fairly sure I remember reading press stories about how the Republicans were getting ready for this possibility and possibly challenge it. Of course all that shit went out the window real quick and for the past 24 years they have been the pro electoral college party.

I think like ~everyone learns about the EC in middle school and immediately realizes it’s bullshit, somehow impossible for the country to fix the issue after multiple disasters that led to minoritarian governments that were trash.

I’m not sure what demographic shift it would take to get to the point that both parties are about equally vulnerable to a popular vote win/EC loss, but I would embrace that because it’s probably our best chance to get both sides to shake on it and kill the current system.

Then again there may not be elections anymore after this year so what do I care.

It’s a completely unsolvable problem, even through there’s literally no sane defense of it other than “it helps my party win, and that’s more important than democracy.”

While funny, I don’t want that.

MAGA really needs to be blown out 2008 style. We need to make it uncool to be a Nazi again.

Boom - apparently the Intercept did a little story about this in 2016:

I am now at the age where any confirmation of the truth of a 20 plus year old memory makes me irrationally happy

I dont think this can really happen because I dont think we’ll ever have a monoculture again wher you get 95% agreeement on things.

Paging ChrisV but how is this not the freest of money? They just expect the whole race to be called by 10pm?

I guess it depends on what criteria they’re using for called but it sure looks like a free money to me.

Associated Press calls

Then yeah, pretty free. Not sure if it’s the freest money available on polymarket right now but it’s definitely a +EV bet.

I think Alaska was the 2nd to last one called last time. It’s really big and takes forever to get to all the remote areas.

Edit: Yeah, it wasn’t officially called until over a week later (after they had already called the EC for Biden).
