Your argument is that obstructing the device that thousands of people attending use to record doesnā€™t stop recording?

Ignoring that, I still donā€™t care because Iā€™m burnt out on robots holding up their lifelines to capture ā€œlifeā€ instead of living in the actual moment in front of them.

If it was in anyway stopping recording sure.

Itā€™s the tsa equivalent. 100% theatre.

was this in the last couple of years?

What sense does that make? The promoters are trying to appease the artists? Who is the audience for this security theater?

When someone else is intimately involved in some industry that youā€™re not involved in and they are doing something you think is irrational, itā€™s good to pause and consider that there might be something youā€™re missing. Even if the reason is theater or corruption or somethingā€¦ If you canā€™t explain it, youā€™re probably missing something.

Which is why I posted it asking about it.

So far nobody has provided an explanation that prevents me from simply using my watch or just bringing a second phone or other recording device. Or why Iā€™m wanded in the phone use area but not on entrance.

So your point about emergency notification was just ā€œtheater.ā€

Cause it works. Maybe not 100%, but it works well enough. It happens less often, the quality is worse, whatever, but it works. They try to stop recording as best they can and then they try to take down videos as best they can and it results in fewer people seeing bootlegs.

This seems a little willfully obtuse. People go to concerts specifically to hear the same songs they have heard a million times before and get upset if there is too much new material. Conversely, comedy relies on irony and the unexpected and comedians basically pretend to be making stuff up on the spot to underscore that. And that is beside the point that many comedy types try to test the boundary of what is acceptable to the audience and sometimes cross that threshold in spite of themselves.

Genuinely have no idea what point you are making. Itā€™s not theatre if a guys wife is a day or two from their due date or a doctor is on call or someone has an accident or a guy is the check in text for a field crew or the hundred other examples I have not mentioned.

Again, I would have no issue if someone can explain the actual utility. If Iā€™m missing some clear utility then Iā€™ll concede.

Your alternate devices can be used for notification.

Good point. I guess you would have to know ahead. We had never heard of this so it caught us off guard.

Really, why? I donā€™t think Iā€™ve heard of that.

Maybe Iā€™m just missing a joke of some kind.

My point is what evidence do we have it works?

I just found an audio recording of her show on torrents. Took me 30 seconds.

The utility compared to the annoyance, cost and time for all audience members simply doesnā€™t make sense in my opinion.

Iā€™d bet this concept doesnā€™t exist in 5 years and the pouch company is out of business.

They have sold a fantasy story to desperate comics who have a real problem they need to solve. This just isnā€™t the solution.

This is relatively new I think, at least in the US - schools banning mobile phones. LAUSD is implementing it right now and itā€™s being debated by my local school district.

Was talking to a niece and nephew last week. Phones are banned totally during school hours. No pouches though. They just canā€™t be seen using them. This makes sense to me.

The make them put the phones into locked pouches when they enter and then they unlock the pouches when they leave?

Youā€™re assuming you know better than a lot of people who are much more directly involved. Maybe theyā€™re all wrong. But if they arenā€™t all just stupid, whatā€™s youā€™re explanation? Big phone pouch?

Donā€™t you think the promotors, venues, and artists all hate this even more than you do?

I think all/most schools already have those rules, but enforcing them has become a herculean task that takes a ton of time away from instruction.

Iā€™m somewhat torn, because in an emergency I want my kid to have his phone.
