Double loop with a broken lap bar is really rolling the dice. He would likely have been ok holding the bar down with all his might the entire ride, but I wouldnt want to chance it if I had the opportunity to get off.

Roller coasters don’t try that hard to throw you out. It’s not like it ever puts more than like 10 percent of your body weight in the flying out of the seat direction - especially on the loops - those are pushing you in your seat. Some roller coasters do hang you up, but I doubt one without shoulder harnesses would.

If my lap bar is not latched and I’m about to do two loops I’m 100% bailing if there’s a catwalk right there. How many people know the actual physics of roller coasters, like 1%? Maybe less. And even then, to trust your life on that? Nope.
It would be a tough way to go, yelling ‘there was supposed to be enough centrifugal fooooorrrcccceee!!’ as they got launched from the 2nd loop.

As the resident (former) coaster nerd, I think this is the right take. Few points of interest…Arizona doesnt have a regulatory body that oversees amusememt rides. It is up to the park to check and maintain their equipment. Apparently this park is notoriously sketchy in that regard. No major incidents, but from what I read it seems like their safety protocols are very lax. This is a podunk little park, so the fact that someone happened to be filming that exact ride at the exact spot at that exact time is a bit suspect. The guy remained anonymous in his news interviews which also adds to my skepticism. Would not be at all surprised if this was an orchestrated attempt at a payout/lawsuit from the guy who climbed out. There definitely was some operator negligence though if the guys account of the situation is accurate, and that much seems to be standard for this unregulated park.
